ST. JOSEPH HILL ACADEMY DEMONSTRATES RESILIENCE AND INNOVATION

On February 24th, St. Joseph Hill Academy marked 100 days of school and the High School Seniors celebrated our annual "100 Days Before Graduation Mass." For 100 days since reopening in the Fall of 2020, St. Joseph Hill Academy (PreK3-12) has been a model of hybrid and remote learning. There have been some stops and starts, but in all, instruction never faltered and our students continued learning and engaging in extracurricular activities virtually.

After a full remote learning quarter from mid-November through mid-February, 9th-12th grades have returned to hybrid learning. Despite the abrupt and drastic changes to our lives, we at St. Joseph Hill Academy can confidently say all of our students from PreK-3 through 12th grade have had continuous learning throughout this year and have experienced a safe learning environment both together at school and remotely.

In this edition of the Summum Bonum Newsletter you will learn how our school has continued to move forward. We are pleased to present an addition to our Arts curriculum, our newly renovated Performing Arts Studio. In November, we mourned our dear Sister Charlotte, Hill High School's longest serving principal, after she passed away at the age of 96. You will read about the legacy scholarship fund created in honor of Sister Charlotte. We also spotlight Mrs. Rosemary Klein who has served as the Elementary School's Art Teacher for over 35 years. We recognize her for her contributions to the creativity and love of art she has instilled in thousands of Hill students over the course of her career. With deep appreciation, we welcome the Founding Members of The 1919 Society. The High School is also hosting a four-part Career Conversations Alumnae Panel series for current Hill sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

We encourage you to read more below!
Hill is Alive with the Sound of Music
St. Joseph Hill Academy is dedicated to the holistic education of all students. This includes providing our students with the opportunity to participate in the Performing Arts. Performing Arts education is proven to positively impact academics and help students gain confidence and develop empathy. Whether the show is The Sound of Music or the Spring Concert, the new Performing Arts Studio will take center stage as the students rehearse and prepare for their performances.

Welcome Founding Members of The 1919 Society
Launched in July 2020, The 1919 Society recognizes the sustained annual support of distinguished, leadership-level benefactors. Introduced to the Hill community during our Annual Fund Appeal, our goal was to enroll approximately 50 members. Much to our joy and excitement we surpassed that goal and set a goal of 100 members by 2020 year-end. We are pleased to announce that the 1919 Society has welcomed 93 members as of the end of February 2021.

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Rosemary Klein
Mrs. Rosemary Klein has taught Art at St. Joseph Hill Academy’s Elementary School for over 35 years. Since 1986, Mrs. Klein has served as the resident artist, bringing the joy of art and igniting the talents of thousands of young children along the way. Generations of St. Joseph Hill Academy students have been taught by Mrs. Klein and all will attest to their fondness for their very special art teacher.

Hill High School Creates Legacy Scholarship Fund in Honor of Sister Charlotte
The Sister M. Charlotte Gulban, F.D.C. Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of Sister Charlotte, who in August of 2020 celebrated her 75th Anniversary as a Daughter of Divine Charity. In honor of Sr. Charlotte’s deep love of education and commitment to her Hilltoppers, this scholarship in her name will be awarded to a daughter, granddaughter, or sibling of a St. Joseph Hill Academy Elementary or High School alumni. Our hope is to create an endowment fund through additional gifts that will sustain this scholarship in perpetuity.

We hope you will support our efforts to sustain it in the years to come by contributing to the Fund. Read more here.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2021-2022 Sister M. Charlotte Gulban, F.D.C. Memorial Scholarship Fund recipient in early March.
