Meet Sparky! Sparky is a six year old shepherd/pit mix. He is a big, goofy boy who loves to play outside and get attention. When you first look at him, you instantly fall in love with him because of his ears that don’t quite know what to do. Sparky doesn’t get along with other dogs or children, so he has to be an only pet in the home with children 16 or older. He doesn’t seem to bark too much, mostly when he wants your attention, food or the other dogs start barking. Sparky loves playing ball, so as long as you have a ball in hand he is a very photogenic boy. Click HERE to see more pictures.

Charlevoix Area Garden Club Presents Awards for Beautification
Once again this year the CAGC encouraged local businesses to beautify their locations with natural floral plantings. We realized that businesses were coming off of a very tough year and were pleased so many were able to plant natural plantings to add to the beauty of our city. The Club judged three different categories: Businesses with gardens; Businesses with window boxes, pots or urns; and Civic Establishments. A committee judged the plantings on July 19th and awarded certificates to the winners on July 26th. Committee chairs, Audrey Etienne and Shirley Polakowski were appreciative of the efforts put forth by the community.

Consumers Energy Celebrates New Solar Power Plant in Cadillac
Following the release of the company’s updated Clean Energy Plan, leaders from Consumers Energy, the state of Michigan and the city of Cadillac Monday dedicated the company’s third solar power plant, Cadillac Solar Gardens. The Clean Energy Plan proposes using nearly 8,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2040, ending the use of coal by 2025, achieving net zero carbon emissions and saving customers $650 million through 2040.
Cadillac Solar Gardens will generate nearly half a megawatt of electricity, enough to power as many as 100 homes at a time. The site has 1,752 panels and includes a battery storage system. The solar panels are located on repurposed brownfield land with a manufacturing history that dates to the late 1800s. Before the solar power plant, the site had been vacant for more than 30 years after the closure of an auto manufacturer.
Consumers Energy also operates solar power plants at Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University.
