Greetings!
Today I want to speak on gratitude.
Our department has achieved so much this year, and it was only possible because of those who stood up to support our mission.
This week, we added our 18th language to the LA For All campaign, the largest anti-hate campaign in Los Angeles City history. This campaign, which stands up for inclusion and belonging in Los Angeles, could not have happened without the help of the following individuals & organizations:
- Mayor Eric Garcetti
- The Los Angeles City Council
- The Department of Cultural Affairs and General Manager Danielle Brazell
- The Department of Public Works and Board of Public Works Commissioner Jessica Caloza
- The Bureau of Engineering and General Manager Gary Lee Moore
- LADWP and General Manager Marty Adams
- The Los Angeles Public Library and General Manager John Szabo
- The Department of Transportation and General Manager Seleta Reynolds
- LA Sanitation & Environment and General Manager Barbara Romero
- Bureau of Street Lighting (LA Lights) and Director Miguel Sangalang
- LA World Airports and CEO Justin Erbacci
- Department of Neighborhood Empowerment and General Manager Raquel Beltran
- LA Metro and CEO Stephanie Wiggins
- Department of Recreation & Parks (LA Parks) and General Manager Mike Shull
- The LA Convention Center and General Manager Doane Liu
- Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles
- The Los Angeles Football Club & the Banc of California Stadium
- Hanmi Bank
- The LA Mission
- Everyone who ordered a poster, and everyone who supports LA For All!
All of these departments, bureaus, organizations and individuals gave their talent, time and ad space to this campaign. In doing so, they helped spread affirming messaging and critical hate crime reporting resources in multiple languages to more than 4,000 ad spaces across Greater LA. We can't know exactly how many lives were improved by this work, but we do know that these efforts are what build a stronger Los Angeles.
Finally, I want to give a huge thanks to the LA Civil Rights team. Our staff, interns and volunteers are hard-working change agents that make the LA Civil Rights mission possible. Every time I walk into our office or see our team making change and empowering communities across LA, I am filled with gratitude.
Thank you to all our partners, friends, staff, volunteers - and everyone leaning in for a better LA.
Keep the faith and keep the fight,
- Capri Maddox

Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department

Giving Back with the LA Mission
|
|
On Wednesday, LA Civil Rights joined the Los Angeles Mission and hundreds of volunteers for their annual Thanksgiving food drive on Skid Row. We were honored to be a part of this special event, and to welcome the LA Mission into our LA for All campaign with six multilingual banners for their service center.
Days like these show us the best of LA. When we all come together around our common humanity and do something to support our neighbors, miraculous things can happen. We hope to see this spirit going strong not just during the holidays, but all year 'round.

Join us for a Chanukah Candle Lighting
|
On Friday, December 3rd, join the Jewish Federation of LA, Anti-Defamation League of LA, LA Civil Rights, and LA leaders for the annual Community Leaders Chanukah Candle Lighting in Grand Park. We will stand together with our Los Angeles civic partners and community leaders to Shine a Light on addressing antisemitism and all forms of hate.
This year's candle-lighting event will coincide with SHINE A LIGHT, a national initiative taking place the week of Chanukah, November 28 – December 6, to raise awareness about antisemitism through education, community partnerships, workplace engagement, and advocacy among Jewish and non-Jewish communities.
