Happy Anniversary

Today marks two years of Rev. Suzanne Ringer serving as Associate Minister for Music and Community Involvement at OBC. Suzanne, we are grateful for your ministry in our midst and the way you bring joy to our lives through music.
Encouraging Sullivan Middle School Staff

As the new school year approaches, we have a wonderful opportunity to show love and encouragement to the teachers and administrators at Sullivan Middle School. As part of our ministry partnership with SMS, we would like to provide encouraging, hand-written cards along with a $5 gift card to each faculty and staff member. If you would like to assist with these efforts by writing cards or making a financial contribution, please contact Krista Hayes: 864-814-9835/kristamg79@hotmail.com. Also, let Krista know if you need blank note cards. They can be dropped off by your house. We need these contributions by Tuesday, September 2nd. Please continue to lift up all of our educators in prayer throughout this most unique school year!
Biscuit and a Blessing
September 6, 8AM-10AM

On Sunday, September 6th from 8AM until 10AM our staff will be handing out biscuits and saying a prayer with each car. We also invite you to bring a few school supplies so we can be a blessing to those in need in our community. If you prefer not to shop for supplies, monetary donations can be used to help schools get items their students needs.
An Inside Look at Family Promise

Prior to this pandemic we were scheduled to host Family Promise the second week of August. Like every other organization, they have had to adjust the way in which they serve their clients. Thanks to Lori Hoffman for giving us an inside look at the great work Family Promise is doing.
Helping our Children and Youth

The way COVID-19 has turned schedules and routines upside down may end up being called an ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences). Parents and other child caregivers can be equipped with understanding of what may lie ahead in the area of mental health for their families. You are invited to view the award-winning documentary "Resilience", coupled with NAMI's "Ending the Silence for Parents" presentation. These FREE opportunities will provide a superb context for proactive learning and discussion. Click the button below for more information.
New Tuesday Night Ladies Bible Study
Simon Peter: Flawed but Faithful Disciple

He left everything to follow his teacher and possessed a passion that would change the world. That’s one way to describe Peter. Here’s another: poor, uneducated, quick-tempered, and full of doubts and fears. Doesn’t even sound like the same man. And that’s the point of Simon Peter, a six-week Bible study by Adam Hamilton. Peter was just an ordinary guy who heard and followed God’s extraordinary call. Discover how you, too, have special gifts, talents, and abilities that God can use to make a difference today.

Join the Tuesday Night Ladies Bible study starting September 8 from 6:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Zoom. Books can be purchased from Amazon by CLICKING HERE. Please click the link below to let us know you plan to join so that we can send you the information you need to join our 6 weekly meetings. For more information, contact Shirley Bailey (shholland@comporium.net) or Patti Robinette (probinette1861@gmail.com). We hope to see YOU on September 8!

As a community of faith we grieve with one another, we endure difficulty with one another and we also CELEBRATE with one another. We invite you to share your accomplishments, milestones and other sources of good news so we can celebrate with you. Email the office (obcoffice@oaklandchurch.com) with your good news and we will share it in the Weekly Update.
2020 is a year that has made us look a little harder for things to celebrate, but if you have had braces you know the removal of them is definitely a reason to celebrate. Grace Scott is all smiles and excited to be able to eat candy again!

Let us know what you are celebrating, so we can celebrate with you!
