October Safety
Reminders

Distracted Driving: Distracted driving is doing another activity that takes your attention away from driving. Distracted driving can increase the chance of a motor vehicle crash. Three main types of distractions are: Visual (taking your eyes off the road), Manual (taking your hands off the wheel), and Cognitive (taking your mind off of driving). When driving remember to stay focused on the road, it will save injuries and lives!

Fire Safety: Establish a family emergency action plan, discuss escape routes with family members, and locate fire extinguishers in your home. Check smoke alarms and fire extinguishers regularly and be sure they are in good working order.

Flu Shot Season: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses, like flu, this fall and winter is more important than ever. Steps to help with this are; getting a flu vaccination, avoid people who are sick or if you are sick, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, don't touch your face, wash your hands often, and social distance.

Halloween Safety and COVID: Health experts say families should err on the side of caution when it comes to trick-or-treating and other traditional fall activities. Much depends on each family’s comfort with taking risks and ensuring they adhere to safety standards and common sense. Masks should be worn by all, even if not part of a costume, social distance, and use plenty of hand sanitizer. Check out these websites for more information: The CDC and Good House Keeping.
