Keeping King's Chapel's members and friends connected each week while we are "Physically Closed but Spiritually Open."
Spotlight On: Survey Results
The window to fill out the "King's Chapel from Home" survey has now closed and the amount of participants certainly exceeded our expectations! Thank you for taking the time to give us earnest feedback as we strive to maintain a spiritual connection with you all. There's much to learn so we are grateful for everyone's survey responses. Thanks again!
From the Minister
My dear friends,

This week Paul's letter to the Romans speaks to us of living sacrifice, spiritual worship, and transformation by the renewal of our minds. Heady stuff, no? We're also given a vision of ourselves as one body with many members, each gifted with different strengths and abilities.

For the past few weeks we've been spending time with stories, some from the Hebrew Bible, some from the Gospels. We've been listening to the accounts of our forerunners in faith, hearing the parables of Jesus, and considering moments of encounter with God. This week we find ourselves exhorted by Paul to nonconformity and transformation. We find ourselves presented with a new vision of ourselves and our community.

As we contemplate these visions, it might be helpful to think back over the lessons of the past several weeks. As we remember the parable of the sower, the miracle of the loaves and fishes, Elijah's encounter with the voice of God, and Jesus' encounter with the Syrophoenician woman, were do we find ourselves in these stories? Paul gives us a list of roles and corresponding gifts in our lesson from Romans 12:1-8 this week: prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, leading, compassion.... Where have the stories of our own lives spoken to us of these gifts?

I urge you to take a moment this week--take several!--to abide not only with the stories of our sacred scripture, but with the stories of our lives: memorable, mundane, multifaceted. As I do this myself, I'll be looking for those moments where I've caught a glimpse of the good news Paul shares with us this week--I look forward to sharing some of mine with you, and to hearing some of yours.

In faith and love,
David

Voter Action Initiative Committee News
At our Monday meeting, we screened a powerful documentary on voter suppression, Suppressed 2020: The Fight To Vote (you can view it here).

And then we had a heartfelt and energetic discussion about what we can each do to promote free and fair elections-from calling friends in key states, to helping with early voting, to volunteering for one of the three groups we have vetted or another project. Initiatives of conscience dedicated to promoting electoral justice have sprung up at over 300 UU congregations across the country.
So far, 18 parishioners at King's Chapel have joined together to take action and we've contacted 380 voters via postcards, letters, texts and phone calls.

Can we get to 50 parishioners and 5,000 contacted? Join us in growing the conscience of King's Chapel. Contact Dorie Seavey.

From the Bench

Fervently following David's Tu es Petrus theme this Sunday, the organ prelude is from James Woodman's Tu es Petrus, commissioned by Lee Riccardi, dearly departed husband of Tom Gregg. The postlude is one of those fiery French organ Toccatas, Tu es petra by Henri Mulet.

Mary Sears, Alison LaRosa, and Brian church will join me in a Tu es Petrus excerpt from Britten's Hymn to St. Peter, and take turns leading hymns.

Last Sunday afternoon, Alison and Jennifer Webb joined me at the church for an experiment in singing masked and very far apart. You will hear the result in this week's Magnificat canticle. Here's hoping more of us can gather at church soon!
Giving to King's Chapel
Our stewardship giving to King's Chapel continues even as we are not physically together each week. This includes our annual pledges and gifts as well as our ongoing contributions to the Sunday plate. If you have not yet sent in your pledge or gift please  do so now and help us in this moment when we truly need it. If you are used to putting money in the Sunday Plate each week to support our community partners and our operating budget, you still can. The loss of this income, about $30,000, has an immediate impact on our community partners and our bottom line. Consider a monthly donation to the Sunday offering--maybe $50,$60,$75, $100 to make up for the lost weeks of attendance. Embracing our stewardship role is a way to joyfully and thankfully support the daily ongoing work that keeps King's Chapel thriving. Thank you.

If you prefer, also know that you can always reach out to any of us individually.
Internet Fraud - Protect Yourself

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, churches across the nation have seen a steep rise in incidents of internet fraud and scams, especially using ministers' names and targeting church members. So far in the last two months, we've had twenty or more. Please watch out for these. I promise, we will never ask you to send us gift cards.  We will never ask for your personal identifying information or bank account info.  If we ever purport to say that we can't be reached by phone, be suspicious.

Some other hints to protect yourselves: Double check the "from" address to see who really has sent it, and double check the email of the person to whom you're supposedly replying. Verify suspicious emails by phone, especially if the email says not to call. Click the link below for more information on how to protect yourself and your family from internet crime.
