On November 19, the Palm Beach Civic Association held a Virtual Annual Award Event live via Zoom. Hosted by Chairman and CEO Bob Wright and President Mary Robosson, our keynote speaker Louis Freeh joined us on screen for an engaging look inside his career with highlights from his years as Director of the FBI.

The 2020 William J. "Bill" Brooks Community Service Award was presented to philanthropists Nicki and J. Ira Harris for their outstanding commitment to the community. Click here for the tribute video and award presentation.

Planned by the Palm Beach Civic Association Fundraising Committee, the virtual event surpassed prior years' and raised significant funds. Special thanks to Committee Chair Michele Kessler, and members George Cohon, Robert Nederlander, Bob and Susan Wright for their outstanding leadership.

We are grateful to Florida Crystals and to the remarkable donors who gave to this event, and to those who contributed in honor of our award recipients. Our “Special Agents”, “Key Witnesses”, “Informants”, and “Specialists” provided critical support for our mission to be conveners, bringing our community together for common good.

In Memoriam
Joanna and the late Louis Pryor
The Palm Beach Civic Association is saddened by the passing of Chairman Emeritus,
Louis C. Pryor. Bob Wright, Chairman and CEO of the Palm Beach Civic Association stated “Louis was a visionary leader for our organization and our Town and paved the way for the Palm Beach Civic Association to be where we are today. We are deeply saddened by his loss and send our deepest condolences to Joanna and his family”.

As Chairman of the Palm Beach Civic Association in the late 1990’s, Mr. Pryor’s main interests and concerns were severe beach erosion, the Town’s employee salary and benefits package and the overall need for a widely supported long term vision for the town. The Association created the Beach Restoration Committee, most of whose members were later appointed to the first Shore Protection Board when the Town Council took over the leadership role on that issue. Also, the Council and Town staff drew up and disseminated the Town’s long-term Strategic Plan and adopted the “Pay for Performance” merit related remuneration system.

“Louis Pryor was a legendary leader for the Palm Beach Civic Association and our community. His kind spirit and clear focus on key issues impacting our Town formed a foundation for those who have followed in his footsteps. He will be missed greatly and remembered always”, shared Mary Robosson, Palm Beach Civic Association President.
The Need Continues
During this season of giving, the Palm Beach Civic Association will kick off our year end giving campaign focused on continued COVID Relief efforts. The Critical Needs Initiative Committee, Co-chaired by Directors Michael Picotte and Michael Pucillo, will be announcing a campaign to provide aid to the growing number of food insecurities in our greater community. More details on ways to give will be shared on Palm Beach TV and in the next issue of Membership Matters.
On behalf of our entire Executive Committee and Civic Association Team, we are grateful to our directors, members and community for your continued support.

We wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
