LET'S PULL TOGETHER
Return to Play and Events - Post COVID Rowing

On July 11, Saskatchewan rescinded all health restrictions in the province. While many businesses and sports returned to pre-COVID operations, many of our clubs have chosen to keep a few restrictions to maintain the safest return to play that we can offer. We are so excited to get back to crew training and to be able to offer a summer filled with Junior Summer Camps, Adult Learn to Rows and Come and Try it Days across the province.

Our HP athletes have already enjoyed a few training camps, and our clubs are beginning to plan for fall events and regattas. The first Provincial Regatta will be the Head of the Sask on September 11, 2021. More details to follow.

And we would like to congratulate VP of Programs and Sanctioning Officer, Sheila Leach who recently passed the rigorous Head Umpire Exam to become part of the prestigious group of Head Umpires in Canada. Great work Sheila!

SAFE SPORT

Sport has the power to change lives. Safe Sport is the belief and practice where all participants can enjoy sport without fear of harassment or maltreatment. Safe Sport is the foundation on which all leadership, coaching, and participation is built.

Saskatchewan Rowing has been a leader in adopting and promoting Safe Sport through the comprehensive suite of policies that were developed by SaskSport years ago and adopted by most sports in our province.

More recently, Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) has developed a comprehensive suite of policies to promote a safe sport of rowing. RCA recognizes that this is an evolving area of focus for all sports in Canada and as such is developing a safe sport program that will continue to focus on education, prevention and response, all of which will be supported by strong governance, policies and procedures.

Over the coming months, the SRA, local clubs and all members, will be asked to agree to these basic principles. We will be updating our policies to reflect the belief that all athletes, coaches, officials, umpires and volunteers have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive training and competitive environment that is free of abuse, harassment or discrimination – collectively referred to as maltreatment.

If you have questions about the Safe Sport program, or would like to volunteer to part of the committee that promotes and manages the program, please contact skrowoffice@gmail.com
WELCOME Summer Development Coaches
This summer we have three coaches working across the province to offer Come and Try It Days, Learn to Rows and Junior Development at communities that do not have full time coaching.

We are so excited pleased to be working with our Summer Development Team of Lauren Matai, Mya Kelln and Sarah Sweet. If you see them out at one of the clubs, or at one of the upcoming Come and Try It days, say hi and give them a warm rowers welcome.

THANK YOU
On behalf of the entire Board and staff of Saskatchewan Rowing, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to Curtis Brunner and Brunner's Construction for the use of their truck for all of our summer development activity out of the Saskatoon & northern regions.

Due to COVID, the province experienced a shortage of trucks which in turn affected our capacity to rent trucks for all of our out of town development programs. We are extremely thankful that Curtis stepped in and offered the use of this truck for the summer.

THANK YOU BRUNNER'S CONSTRUCTION
We want to hear from you. Give us your feedback on the newsletter, suggest information you would like to see more of and help us get you what you need!
