Dear Fellow Recyclers:
Winter is a busy time for our industry! Legislative sessions are meeting in our member states, and important work is happening. As we get close to having all our states' Legislative Sessions opened (Alabama opens 3/7), we must all recognize the importance of being involved and knowing your state and local legislators and regulators.
In this issue, we talk about why it's important to know your legislators and how to get started in "Building Relationships with Legislators." Thank you to the GA Recyclers Association for their input on this issue.
Speaking of state associations, it has long been the focus of the Southeast Region to nurture these relationships and have our states look out for and support each other. We’ve worked very hard over the years to assist and grow the state associations and recognize that they do the majority of the heavy lifting when it comes to issues we face on a daily basis. We should be very proud of the network and the work our members did to develop them. If you are not a member of your state's recyclers association, please consider joining their network!

Puerto Rico does not have an association, but is part of our region. Contact Chip Koplin for more information.
We also need to make sure we do our best to be the best neighbors we can be in our communities. We must do our best to keep any possible negative impacts to our communities contained. With all the bad publicity out there when it comes to fires, pile control, material inspection and battery awareness, simple measures make big differences.
We must always remember, as responsible recyclers, we are NOT the problem, we are an integral part of the solution.
