NWIL - Camp Update
KIDS CAMP & TEEN CAMP 2021

Due to the current phase that Illinois regions are still in and are continuing to get vaccinations in place, we believe for the safety of our children and youth that Kids Camp & Teen Camp need to be cancelled this year. This was not an easy decision for our leadership to make. District leadership, NYI Council and SDMI Council met and made the best decisions for all involved.

EXCITING EVENTS ARE BEING PLANNED
With all of the above being said, NYI Council and Children's Ministry Council are in the process of planning outdoor one day events throughout the summer. As soon as all details are finalized, you will receive full information
NWIL - Funding the Mission & The Great Commission

For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Working together, we accomplish so much as the Body of Christ. Become a part of missions work and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In the Funding the Mission plan, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives that mission.

We have reached the end of the church year. Thank your your faithfulness and giving. The end of the year report will be available next month.

God's Work Our Hands

As Christians, we are ALL called to play a part in the process of planting, watering, and reaping the harvest. 1 Corinthians 3:9 says, that "we are the laborers together with God." As a church what is your overall mission toward this effort?

We are told in scripture to pray and provide support to those who give of themselves in taking the gospel to various parts of the earth. Paul asked the church to pray "that the message of the Lord spread rapidly and be honored...and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith. (II Thessalonians 3:3).  Paul thanked the Philippian church for their contribution to his care (Philippians 4:10-18).

Full-time missionaries depend on prayer, encouragement and financial support to meet spiritual, emotional and physical needs, so that they can give themselves fully to the work of spreading the gospel. This is where the local church steps in to help. Our encouragement matters. Our financial help matters. Our prayers matter. Training children about missions matters.

Scripture commands us to not only love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, but also to love our neighbor as ourselves. We are taught that the entire law sits on these two things. (Matthew 22:36-40). When you are hungry, tired, and cold you care for yourself enough to eat, sleep, and warm yourself; this verse asks us to take the extra step of seeking to cover the basic needs of our brothers and sisters, including those out in the field loving and caring for the lost.

Let each of us either personally or corporately move from the sidelines to the frontlines caring for our missionaries. Let's make a difference now!!

After much prayer and careful consideration, the USA/Canada Nazarene Youth International Regional Council announced it will move forward with Nazarene Youth Conference 2023 from July 5 through 9 in Tampa Bay, Florida. The decision was approved by the Board of General Superintendents in consultation with the general secretary.

"We recognize the challenges of hosting this regional event in light of the recent shift of General Assembly & Conventions to the summer of 2023," said Justin Pickard, USA/Canada NYI coordinator. "However, there is strong consensus that staying with our original plan and honoring established contracts with the city and venues is the best decision. In addition, we believe we can leverage previous NYC momentum while capitalizing on the centennial year of Nazarene Youth International by joining the global NYI celebration throughout 2023."

Nazarene Youth Conference is a quadrennial event that will bring together an estimated 10,000 high school students and youth leaders from across the USA/Canada Region for five days of worship services, service projects, and more.

Additional details, including theme, speakers, and other details, will be released in the spring of 2021 through district NYI leadership and on the NYC social media pages.

The HOPE Chest Pekin
Let's talk about some of the ways your DONATIONS and your PURCHASES at the HOPE Chest help your community and surrounding areas. Here are some examples of how you have enabled us to help others in the past year: (All of our programs come at NO COST to those we assist as we use funds from the sales of your donated items thru the store.)
* We spent over $7000 just for meat alone for our Thanksgiving & Christmas food baskets serving 575 families jointly. This did not include the cost of the rest of the food each family received.
* The Food Pantry has served over 5,000 families last year alone. Not all of the food we provide is free to us. We do have to pay for much of this food
* PLUS we operate the PAWS of HOPE Pet Food Pantry providing pet food for over 600+ pets a month
* We provided Christmas gifts for over 450+ children
* Last year the HOPE Chest assisted over 200 individuals with FREE clothing, houseware items and furniture equivalent to approximately $17,000+ to help those in desperate need through our Seeds of HOPE assistance program.
* Since the HOPE Chest opened in 2012, we have given away FREE over $105,000.00+ of furniture, clothing, household items
* The HOPE Chest partners with over 50 different local and regional organizations to help people in need. These organizations often send their clients in need to us and via our Seeds of HOPE program we are able to assist these individuals/families in their time of need.
* Last summer we provided 60 oscillating fans for our Seniors who live on limited budgets to help them stay cool in the heat of the summer.
* Every Wednesday, we provide a 25% discount for anyone over the age of 55. This helps all Seniors.
* For the last 5 years in August we have provided 400+ backpacks with basis school supplies along with 10 FREE clothing items for each child, to give them a good start for the school year.

Canton First
Canton First has a new Lead Pastor...Matt Oost

My name is Matt Oost and I serve as Lead Pastor at Canton First Church of the Nazarene. Prior to serving in Canton, I served as associate pastor at Peoria Nazarene. God has truly blessed me and my wife Stephanie and our 2 children, Anna and Simon (with a 3rd soon to come), as we have returned to Canton.  My call to ministry goes back to my teenage years when I had a strong sense that God was calling me to give my life to some kind of service for Him...I just had no idea what it was at the time. As life happens, God will take us the long way to prepare and equip us for what He has called us to. That was the case for me. Though I knew God was calling me as a teen, it took 20 years of prep work in my life to bring me to where I am today. The journey has been more than worth it, and I am looking forward to what God does in the next 20 years!

Crossbridge Community

Crossbridge Community Church has a heart for children and families in our communities.  Eight years ago, we began a program called Feed His Children to provide supplemental groceries to school-aged children for the weekend.  The program started in one school with 25 bags of groceries going out twice a month. We are now in 32 schools, including Jr. High and High Schools and distribute approximately 500 bags of groceries each month through the school systems.

We also have four micro pantries in three communities.  People can take what they need and leave what they can.  These pantries are used on a daily basis.

We began Feed His Children to be a blessing in our community.  We try to remain as anonymous as possible.  We want to bless others because God has blessed us in so many ways.

North Pekin

We are honored to announce that Retha Stout will join our leadership team as Children's Director. Our Church Board and I are so excited about Retha's gifts and passion for Children. Retha is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Education, a double minor in music and cross cultural ministries.

She has been involved in many ministries within the church and the community. Retha is trained in Church Planting Essentials and Churches Planting Churches along with Organic Church Planting. She will be joining us in mid April. Please join us in welcoming Retha! - Rev. Ron Jansen
Pekin First
We sat in the huge, empty Fellowship Center, masked and socially distanced, broken hearted that this beautiful facility was empty during the week. That day in a July staff meeting, our creative God helped us think new thoughts. We envisioned what educators may be going through, trying to work out the start of the school year. We decided to invite them for a "town hall" meeting to ask what we could do to support them. 14 educators representing 4 school districts attended. We talked, asked questions, brainstormed, and prayed. As a result of this meeting, we bought batteries for one school, packed and donated hundreds of school snack packs, helped a teacher buy organizational totes, wrote notes of encouragement to school staff, hung a banner thanking teachers and school staff at our Pekin and Washington campuses, and were invited to the table to talk through solutions for Pekin Community High School (PCHS) students that were struggling to find a safe, warm, Wi-Fi friendly, quiet place for their remote learning days. In early January, 10 Pekin First Nazarene volunteers attended training at PCHS to be Remote Study Hall helpers. Students began using the Fellowship Center and Refuge, PFN's youth room, as a Remote Study Hall. Different kids come each day, Monday - Thursday, to have a quiet place to study. A teacher from PCHS comes each day, the kids can be bused here, they receive breakfast and lunch and have access to free Wi-Fi. PCHS then comes and cleans/sanitizes after each session. This has been a fantastic partnership with PCHS and what a great way to help our community!

164 World Areas
During the 97th General Board meeting, the 164th world area for the Church of the Nazarene was recognized. Luxembourg has officially joined the Northern Europe field on the Eurasia region. Thank you for praying for Luxembourg.

Luxembourg is surrounded by Belgium, France and Germany. The country is mostly rural and its capital, Luxembourg City, is known for its fortified medieval town perched on sheer cliffs. It is a small country, 2,586 square kilometers (998 sq mi), with over 600,000 people calling it home, and has the highest population growth rate in Europe.

Eurasia Region holds first 24-hour prayer event

Nazarenes across 40 nations of the Eurasia Region participated in the region's first-ever 24 Hours of Prayer initiative from 30 to 31 January 2021.

The initiative was designed to deepen interconnectedness among Nazarene churches across the region while consecrating the region to God, inviting Him to cover the nations and His people with His presence.

With about 22 hours of daylight across the region, prayer was set to begin an hour before sunrise in Eastern Russia and end an hour after the sun sets in the Azores Islands, spanning the entire, vast Eurasia Region.

OLIVET MUSICAL CELEBRATION HONORING DR. JOHN BOWLING & DR. JILL BOWLING
On Saturday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m., Olivet Nazarene University will be hosting An Evening With Friends. This musical celebration is being held in honor of University President Dr. John C. Bowling and his wife, Dr. Jill Bowling.

For more than 30 years, the Bowlings have contributed graceful leadership and extensive generosity to the University, from which they both graduated. This spring Olivet is celebrating their years of service with a musical gala held in Centennial Chapel.
This black tie optional gala will be a wonderful event to honor our longest-serving president. The evening will feature University ensembles including Orpheus Choir, Proclamation Gospel Choir, the University Orchestra and Bands, and special guests. All proceeds with benefit student scholarship initiatives.

Tickets are now available at  olivet.edu/tickets. We have taken great consideration in planning this event, and will abide by all University and CDC recommendations regarding distancing and face coverings. The ticket selection accounts for social distancing, and is automated. Ticket holders will be sent a safety reminder the week of the event, with standards, etc. for the Gala.

Church Multiplication Endowment Fund
Give a GIFT that doesn't stop Giving!

Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?

How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!

Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches?  You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.

The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work.  Will you help fund this goal?

Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.

Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030.  We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers.  Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.

Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month?  We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little.  Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives?  Here are ways to give:

 1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.

 2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct  CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.

3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)

We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!

You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property.  Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministryCLICK HERE  to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.

Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
