September 28, 2021

Greetings!

I’m thrilled to be writing to you today, with just one week until the opening performance of our 2021–22 Center Stage Series: Ranky Tanky on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

This Grammy Award–winning quintet celebrates Gullah culture of the South Carolina sea islands, with songs steeped in traditions brought to the region by West African slaves. “Ranky Tanky” translates loosely as “work it” or “get funky,” which they do, while at the same time providing “soulful honey for the ears” (National Public Radio). Ranky Tanky feels to me like the perfect way to return to live performance.

The Center Stage Dinner Series is back as well, offering a gourmet meal in Peace Dining Room, starting at 5:30 p.m. for $21.

Our ticket office is ready to accommodate your seating requests if you’d like to be seated at a distance from other patrons. Masks will be required for the 90-minute performance, in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and Luther College. Visit tickets.luther.edu, stop by, or call (563) 387-1357.

All of us in the Center for Faith and Life, including the hardworking students of the Performing Arts Committee, look forward to seeing you next week!

Warmly,
Kristen Underwood
Director of Campus Programming
