WINTER BASKETBALL
GVBL Winter Rec League
After a 2nd weekend of games, the rust is coming off and the kids are getting into a much better basketball frame of mind! Hopefully players and parents are settling into a routine of practices, games and locations.
There will be no practices or games this Thanksgiving holiday week.
GVBL is very thankful to everyone involved in our winter rec league, volunteers, kids, parents, families, custodians...everyone's patience to allow for the massive task of getting nearly 900 kids playing basketball in our Great Valley community.
We hope you and your families have a great holiday and we look forward the a season of great basketball!

GVBL Boys HS Division
With grades 1-8 settled, it's time to focus on the GVBL Boys HS division. Thank you to the 100+ boys who have signed up thus far! Registration is open but there are not many open spots. Don't miss out!
Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-10PM.
- Nov 30th - Registration closes

Dec 1st - Teams assigned; no carpool requests are accepted
- Dec 6th - Open gym at Great Valley Middle School: 6-7:30PM for 9th & 10th graders; 7:45-9:30PM for 11th & 12th graders.
- Dec 8th - Opening tipoff, games begin for our GVBL Boys HS division

GVBL Tournament Teams
Tryouts were completed and our 2021-2022 GVBL tournament team rosters are set. The Girls and Boys 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade teams have begun practicing and most will be playing in upcoming holiday tournaments.
GVBL Tournament Team players must be GVSD residents and current GVBL rec team players. For additional information about the program or a specific team, please reach out to basketball@gvco.org.

GVBL Jr Hoopsters
This program is designed for Kindergarten & 4 year old preschool girls & boys. Due to GVSD space constraints and construction of the new GVCO facility, Jr. Hoopsters program will be held on Saturday afternoons at General Wayne Elementary school from mid-January through early March. Registration details will be posted on out website beginning December 6th.

GVBL Monte Carlo Event
SAVE THE DATE: Friday evening March 4th at the Desmond Hotel
Back by popular demand, our GVBL season event will be our Monte Carlo Night. This fabulous community event will be held the evening of Friday, March 4th at the Desmond Hotel. We have had several individuals offer to help plan/coordinate the event however we need more! This is a BIG party! If you have the time and would like to get involved please reach out to basketball@gvco.org.

GVMS Girls Basketball
Tryouts occurred earlier this month and the 7th & 8th grade teams start their season on December 1st. The schedule begins with a home game at 3:15 against Engle Middle School. GVMS Girls Basketball Schedule

GVCO is thankful for our community and we hope that you will reach out to those less fortunate. We are partnering with Home of the Sparrow and their Winter White Out Donation Drive:
Did you know that government assistance does not cover necessary household items? For women and mothers who are facing homelessness, the cost of essential household items can be insurmountable. Please join us in creating a #WinterWhiteOut and help us collect the following items:
- Wawa gift cards (for fuel)
- Bleach
- Cleaning products
- Laundry detergent
- Paper towels
- Unscented trash bags

Philadelphia is the nation's poorest big city with nearly 300,000 children living in poverty across the region. Cradles 2 Crayons Philadelphia has a reach that goes well beyond the borders of the city itself.
|
|
Chester County, including the Malvern area, is included in the region in which C2C is having an impact. GVCO is once again partnering with C2C, hosting our 3rd Annual Donation Drive. Reaching out to our Great Valley community in an effort to help those right here in our area.
Part of C2C's mission: "Our whole focus is to make our collaborative process as easy and streamlined as possible. This helps us to empower the children we serve collaboratively — at home, at school, and at play — by providing the everyday essentials that match their individual needs." GVCO's reach here in the community, coupled with C2C's ability to reach those in need is the perfect partnership for our GVCO Caring Hands foundation.
Childhood poverty is a serious nationwide issue and the local area is not immune. Without adequate and appropriate clothing, children face unfair barriers and participate in life on an unequal playing field. Cradles to Crayons uses the term “Clothing Insecurity” as part of our efforts to formally recognize the issue, and increase awareness on this hidden basic need.
GVCO is proud to be partnering with such a worthy organization in helpng C2C reach its inspiring mission and goals.

What GVCO provided for me and the girls CAN NOT be overstated. Picking them up after school, getting to practice/games, out to eat, hanging with other parents, etc. We got to interact/experience a bit of actual day/day life on life's terms. Nothing takes the place of being there and for sure some things would have been different. So many experiences, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want". I got to play Dad and coach...and the girls had a role model.
Know that GVCO has made a difference in the lives of my daughters and myself. That is very noble.

Not only do they provide professional services, but they genuinely care about the community they serve. The Mattioni Care’s Program was started to recognize local organizations, charities, and youth sports programs for the excellent work they do in the community.
