Happenings in and around the Chamber!
Happy Monday!

Was your weekend a good one? We hope so; it certainly was nice to have sunshine!

Help Us at Windmill City Festival!

The Batavia Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to man the beer tent at the Windmill City Festival on Saturday, August 28. Our share of the proceeds and tips received during our scheduled time will benefit the Batavia Chamber Inspire Scholarship Fund. The Batavia Chamber of Commerce will need trained volunteers from 4:30 to 11 p.m. We have divided the volunteer times into two slots, 4:30 to 7:45 p.m. (at least 17 volunteers) or 7:30 to 11 p.m. (at least 20 volunteers). We will need one Team Captain per shift who is B.A.S.S.E.T. Certified. Learn more and sign up to help on our Sign Up Genius page. This is great fun and benefits our Scholarship Fund, so please join us!

Kane County Area Resource Guide

As a reminder, the Batavia Counselors' Collaboration put together a fantastic resource, the Kane County Area Resources Guide. The downloadable PDF is available via this Google Docs link. It is filled with sources of help - particularly mental health - and the contact information for these organizations. We have the printed resource available in the office, too.

Follow them on Facebook for tips, videos and updated information!

Mayor's Weekly Update

Many of you enjoy these updates; here is a link to watch the video recorded on Friday, July 16. In it, he commended the community service of two Batavians who recently passed away: Ruth Burnham and Nancy Carlson. Nancy was a teacher at Mooseheart and served on the Batavia Public Library Board for 15 years, among many other activities. Ruth was named the 1992 Batavia Citizen of the Year and was instrumental in bringing Riverain senior apartments to Batavia.

We continually update our home page, bataviachamber.org when new resources and information comes out. Also, check our calendar for new events from us and the community. With summer heating up, there are many great new events from the community and our members. Make certain you check the calendars regularly!

As always, we are now, and will be in the future, here for you.

Most sincerely,

Margaret, Patti and Shirley

Congratulations to My Place Hotel on the Opening of Tapville
The Batavia Chamber of Commerce was pleased to celebrate the opening of a Tapville Social self-pour beverage station at Chamber member My Place Hotel, 1000 Kilbery Lane, North Aurora. The event took place on Thursday, July 15. The Geneva Chamber of Commerce and the Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau also participated.

North Aurora Mayor Mark Gaffino presided over the celebration, along with Frank Corti, general manager of My Place Hotel. Among the well-wishers were Julie Schwarz, representing the owners of the North Aurora My Place Hotel, and Jeanne Sawtell, member services and event coordinator of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. Other attendees were Shirley Mott, Batavia chamber communications and membership coordinator; Cort Carlson, executive director of the Aurora Area CVB, ambassadors and friends.

The Tapville Social concept allows My Place Hotel to offer a selection of alcoholic beverages on site without having a bartender. Consumers visit the front desk attendant, who checks their I.D. and then issues a Pour Pass card that is either pre-paid or connected to a credit card. The patron then selects and pours their beverage of choice. If groups are looking for a spot to hold a meeting, the event space, complete with the Tapville Social kiosk, is available to rent. Contact My Place Hotel at (630) 256-8485 to learn more and book the space.
