Dear Crew,
Believe it or not we are now three weeks into this school year! Everyday, I am more thankful for our entire community! Hurdles are thrown in our way and with grace and agility our Crew responds to solve new problems. Yesterday, is a great example of that. I am very hopeful that next week will be uneventful.
Yesterday, we had planned to hold our Back-to-School Night. Our power outage changed those plans in a hurry. Our power was finally restored around 2 am this morning. Here are our plans to make this event happen. Next week we will send out formal Back-to-School Night Communication via email, our website, and social media that contains my presentation and all our teachers' presentations (These may look differently based on the grade level). This will be information that you can save and reference later. I would also like you to save the date of September 9th for a PLE Meet and Greet from 4:30-7:00 pm (Please note, however, that some of my staff may have unmovable personal plans and may not be available for the entire evening given the change). This will be an opportunity to meet your child's teacher, tour the building, connect with our helpful staff, play on the playground and essentially get a sneak peak into the 7 hours a day your child spends at school each day. We are also working to coordinate having food trucks at the school for your convenience. Watch for more details next week.
We will also have our first SAC/PTO meeting on September 1st starting at 4:45 pm in our Library at South. You will also be able to attend via google meets if you prefer. I am also excited to announce our new parent representatives Annette Poole and Josh Clement. We are excited for the impact these two will have on our school.
I would like to wrap up this week’s communication by making you aware of some celebrations. One huge celebration is Pine Lane’s performance on CMAS last year. Two data points make me super proud of the work that our Crew has done this past couple years even in the face of the adversity COVID has caused. 53% of our 3rd grade students achieved proficient or advanced in English Language Arts. This outperforms both DCSD and the State. Our 5th Grade cohort of students increased the percent of proficient and advanced students from 34% in 2019 to 51.3% in English Language Arts. This is substantial growth and it confirms that the improvement efforts are working. I am extremely proud of our entire Crew! Also, thank you for all your efforts in our Fall Fundraiser. We have now almost $30,000 in website sales on day 9 and have reached 25% of our goal. I also know there are several of you who made straight donations. We so appreciate your efforts to support our school!
Have a wonderful weekend!
