Lenten meditation for March 2 , 2021

Last week I was in Hackettstown with a lot of bags for needy families who had requested items from North Porch. I was met by a nurse, a visiting nurse who had a connection to each of the families on my list and who had volunteered to drive to each home and take these urgently needed baby supplies to them.

Before we had finished loading the bags into her car, she asked how she and people in her office could further help North Porch.

She was already doing so much, sparing the mothers the need to walk in the cold with their infants, but she wanted to know how else she could help.
We talked about her colleagues having a baby drive for Mother’s Day or how they could collect baby wipes, as we need over 100 packets most weeks.

I was so touched by her wish to do more for this needy population, and the fact that she and her colleagues had discussed helping North Porch filled me with so much hope.

Each week North Porch receives at least one donation and sometimes many donations of the supplies we give to families in need. Those of us who prepare the bags are so appreciative of all the love and support we receive.
In recent years we have served just over 3000 infants but last year that number dramatically increased to 4100.

We were only able to fulfill the need because of the generosity of so many churches and individual people.

Thank you, God for generous hearts.
