Superintendent of Volusia County Addresses Business Community
Eggs and Issues is the premier event venue for discussion of public and legislative affairs in the Daytona Beach region. Join us on Thursday, March 9 from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at the Halifax River Yacht Club to gather strategic information for your business and be part of important conversations that work to better our community.

Dr. Carmen Balgobin took the reins as Superintendent of Volusia County Schools in July 2022. Now into the second semester of the academic year, Dr. Balgobin will be the featured presenter at March's Eggs & Issues program. She will share her thoughts on several items during the presentation:
  • Year one as Superintendent...the positives, the challenges, the surprises, and more. 
  • Her vision for the future of the district and the students attending Volusia County Schools.
  • How schools are leveraging the results of the YouScience student skills assessment, a program offered through a partnership between the Daytona Regional Chamber and CareerSource Flagler Volusia.
  • How the business community can engage the school district for mutual benefit.

With Florida’s Legislative Session starting in less than a month, Governor DeSantis has released his Framework for Freedom Budget. The Framework for Freedom Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24 totals $114.8 billion, with the General Revenue portion representing $42.4 billion. 


On Monday, February 6th, 2022, Volusia County Schools and the Teacher Unions agreed on a new contract between the parties. However, the teachers and the Volusia County School Board still need to ratify it. Under the new deal, all instructional personnel will receive a total package of $11.7 million.


In Governor DeSantis’ Framework for Freedom Budget, $14.7 billion will be set aside for transportation infrastructure across Florida. The investment is in addition to the "Moving Florida Forward," which will invest $4 billion to expedite 20 transportation projects relieving congestion across the state, which will be leveraged for a total of $7 billion.

Join us for Lunch with Leaders, featuring Lou Paris, Serial Entrepreneur. This lunch will take place on Wednesday, March 22 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Stonewood Grill & Tavern.

Lou Paris is a highly accomplished entrepreneur and academic. Lou previously served as the Director of the Prince Entrepreneurship Program at Stetson University. He has a wealth of expertise in entrepreneurship, providing training to residents of Volusia and Flagler counties through Startup Quest TM. He has founded successful businesses such a Mamuto LLC, HotelEnglishOnline.org, and MeVoy.com. Lou has achieved great success in his ventures, securing funding, and launching new products.

The Lunch with Leaders series provides an opportunity in a small group setting for a small business to have conversations with an experienced individual in the community. Lunch will feature introductions, connections, and conversations pertinent to small business owners in a post-pandemic world.

Florida Chamber Foundation Workforce Needs
The Florida Chamber Foundation invites you to share your insights regarding your workforce skills needs to secure Florida's future at their Regional Employer Focus Groups. 
 
By way of background, in partnership with CareerSource Florida, the Florida Chamber Foundation and regional partners are co-hosting skills-based employer focus groups to support their latest research effort, the Florida Workforce Needs Study 2.0. These employer-only sessions will help the Florida Chamber Foundation: 
 
  • Gain insight regarding current and emerging skills needs
  • Catalog best practices in employer-educator partnerships, and 
  • Identify ways to maximize utilization of training support initiatives
 
All learnings will inform strategies and policy recommendations as part of the final report of research findings, to be released later this year. These focus groups consist of four separate meetings, two in the morning and two in the afternoon---one for each of the occupational clusters:

Daytona Regional Chamber Office Furniture For Sale
As of March 1st , the Daytona Regional Chamber offices will officially be closed to the public.

Beginning April 1st, the new temporary location for the organization will be at 200 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Daytona Beach. The Daytona Regional Chamber will remain open for standard business hours during our transition, as well as in our new location.

At this time, all furniture at the chamber offices is for sale. You can find desks, chairs, small conference tables, filing cabinets, and more. If you are in need of office furniture, schedule a time to swing by our office and peruse the offerings.
