COVID-19 Report for October 27, 2021
Comparing case counts from Monday to Wednesday:

  • The United States of America case count increased from 45,470,130 to 45,638,297 (+.37 percent).
  • The State of Kansas case count increased from 430,293 to 432,730 (+.57 percent). 
  • In Sedgwick County, case counts increased from 66,717 to 67,055 (+.51 percent).

The Sedgwick County Health Department no-cost testing site is located at 4115 E. Harry St. starting Monday, October 4. Testing hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Text "SC COVID TEST" to 316-215-8313 to get in line for a COVID-19 test through the Sedgwick County Health Department. You will receive a message notifying you of a wait time or to come inside immediately. If Qless is full you will receive a message stating "The testing line is full for the rest of the day." There are additional no-cost testing sites in Wichita for residents to utilize. The Health Department takes a nasal, oral, or saliva sample to send to a lab for COVID-19 PCR testing. Results are generally available by the afternoon of the next weekday. The results of the virus test show whether a person has a current infection. This is not an antibody test.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update
The Sedgwick County Health Department is offering no-cost Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 booster vaccines at 223 S. Main. People should bring documentation of their first and second doses to the vaccine site.

Moderna COVID-19 booster vaccines will only be offered Oct. 27 through Nov. 24 at the SCHD vaccine clinic. SCHD mobile clinics will not provide Moderna booster doses at this time.

Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose.

For those vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at 6 months or after their second dose in the series:
  1. 65 years and older
  2. Age 18 and older who live in long-term care settings
  3. Age 18 and older who have underlying medical conditions
  4. Age 18 and older who work or live in high-risk settings

For those vaccinated with the one dose J&J COVID-19 vaccine, booster shots are recommended for those 18 and older and who received the one dose J&J a minimum of two months ago.

Sedgwick County Health Department offers the Comirnaty (Pfizer) and Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccine at multiple locations across Sedgwick County at no-cost. The Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine is available to people age 12 and older; the J&J vaccine is available to people age 18 or older.

The Health Department offers the following no-cost vaccine clinic options:

  • Main Vaccine Clinic at the former Wichita Public Library | 223 S. Main, Wichita, KS 67202
  • Mobile Clinics are offered by SCHD staff
  • Partner Clinics are offered by community partners and assisted by SCHD staff. Appointments preferred but walk-ins are welcome
  • Event Clinics are where SCHD offers vaccine during an event. Businesses planning events can contact SCHD by email at SCHDCovidVaccine@sedgwick.gov

Proposed Resolution: Discharge Firearms across Property Boundaries in the Unincorporated Area of Sedgwick County, KS
On October 21, the Board of County Commissioners were presented a proposed resolution regarding the discharge of firearms across property boundaries. The decision was made to defer the voting of this resolution to the next scheduled regular meeting on Nov. 3, 2021.

Board of County Commissioners Redistricting Maps
Every ten years, dictated by state statute and following the release of updated census data, the county is required to go through a redistricting process. The goal of this process is to reach compactness and equalize the amount of population in each district. Mapping software used by the Department of Geographic Information Systems created eight scenarios that were presented to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) who are now discussing with the public. In order to adopt a new district boundary map, it has be voted and approved by the BOCC through a resolution. There is no specific deadline, but the hopes is to complete the redistricting process by the end of the year.

2021 General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 2 - GO VOTE
You can vote early at the Sedgwick County Election Office (510 N. Main, Ste. 101) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting October 18 through November 1. Voting will end at noon on November 1. Additional early voting locations will be available from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 28 and 29, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. October 30. When voting in person, please take your photo I.D. Polls will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, November 2, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit sedgwickcounty.org/vote.
The Moving Wall
Commissioners, County leaders, and State officials attended the Opening Ceremony of The Moving Wall in Valley Center on October 22. The Wall is a half-size replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for 30 plus years. It contains the names of over 58,000 people who lost their lives from the Vietnam War. The Moving Wall was in Valley Center through October 25.
Veterans Day Parade
The Annual Veteran’s Day Parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 beginning in front of the Sedgwick County Courthouse promptly at 11 a.m.

Fallen Firefighters & Law Enforcement Memorial Events
On Sunday, October 10, members of SCFD1 attended the 20th Annual Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the Kansas Firefighters Museum. On Friday, October 15, members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Wichita Police Department, held their annual Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony at the corner of Central and Main Street.

We are grateful for the support given to the families of the fallen firefighters, deputies and officers. Their ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
