Come join us as we honor all those who have served our great nation, but particularly those no longer with us. The event will also include patriotic music, presentations by the Forsyth County Fire and Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, and a keynote speaker. Parking for the event is available at the Castleberry Road Parking Deck and the Cumming Fairgrounds lots. Mayor and City Council Recognize Sarcoidosis Awareness Month
Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented a proclamation during their April Work Session declaring April as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ of the body, and causes the immune system, which normally protects the body from infection and disease, to overreact resulting in damage to the body’s own tissue. The "Cumming Home" water tower at Exit 13 was also lit purple at the end of April in recognition of Sarcoidosis Awareness Month.

During the April Work Session and Regular Meeting, City Council also:

  • In a 4-1 vote with Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter opposed, approved an amendment to the City's Alcohol Ordinance to regulate consumption service in certain Planned United Development districts and to regulate cigar shops.

  • In a 4-1 vote with Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter opposed, approved an ordinance to allow use of Personal Transportation Vehicles (PVTs) on certain streets within the City of Cumming, to provide for registration, and require certain operational and equipment standards relating to PVTs driven on public streets.

  • In a 4-1 vote with Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter opposed, approved an Intergovernmental Agreement for the transfer of the City Center Management to the Downtown Development Authority. The IGA states that the transfer to the DDA is for the DDA to utilize the powers it has under state law to manage the project, including its leases, properties, and future development, for the benefit of the City, its residents, and taxpayers. It further states the duties of the DDA and the City. In a second 4-1 vote with Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter opposed, also voted to authorize Mayor Troy Brumbalow to sign all necessary documents relating to the transfer.

  • In a 4-1 vote with Councilwoman Linda Ledbetter opposed, approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the DDA for construction and financing of the Cumming City Center. A representative of United Community Bank was present to answer questions on the proposed non-revolving line of credit and the promissory note.

  • Accepted the low bid from Jasper Grading and Pipeline for grading and repaving of the Utilities Distribution and Collection Shop south parking lot, as well as the low bid from Edge Roofing Inc. for installation of spray-in foam insulation and renovation of the breakroom.

  • In a 3-1 vote with Councilman Christopher Light recused and Councilman Chad Crane opposed, voted to deny Annexation Application #2022105-Gateway to Lanier.

  • Accepted the low bid from North Georgia Pipeline Inc. for Utilities' Clearwell Project-Phase 1, and to authorize Mayor Brumbalow to sign and City Clerk Jeff Honea to attest all GEFA Loan Documents relating to the project.
