"Conti's Pastry Shoppe Boulevard"
revealed on Sunday, April 24, 2022
honoring the 100th anniversary of Conti's
It was a moment of great joy gathering the community on Sunday, April 24, 2022, to honor the 100 years anniversary of Conti's, by revealing the new "Conti's Pastry Shoppe Boulevard" - at the corner of Morris Park Avenue and Barnes Avenue. We thank all elected representatives present, notably
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Councilwoman Marjorie Velazquez, Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez, and former Councilman Mark Gjonaj. Over 200 people came to enjoy music, ice-cream, pizza and, of course the famed cannolis from Conti's. Thanks to all for participating!
Loreto Playground Anticipated Completion
SPRING 2022
We are very excited to see construction action at Loreto Park and a new posted anticipated completion date of Spring 2022! We thank the construction crews commissioned by New York City Department of Parks & Recreation - and hope for a consistent pace of construction progress! Morris Park children and families will soon be able to enjoy the open space, sports and social activities again on the Morris Park Ave side of Loreto Park! What a wonderful way to look forward to summer on Morris Park!
MPBID in the news
News12 The Bronx covered the Conti's 100 year community celebration and the street renaming as "Conti's Pastry Shoppe Boulevard". Check out the video here.
We were also honored by the News12 feature on Dr. Camelia Tepelus in celebrating the Women's History Month.
We really appreciate the support of our local news media, News 12 and the Bronx Times for our work in the community.
Free Community Arts Workshops
Coming to Morris Park "Hanging Garden"
We are thrilled to announce that local Artist Ruth Marshall has been awarded a Bronx Council on the Arts grant for which MPBID provided a Letter of Support, to beautify our local Morris Park Community Garden with a colorful, crocheted art installation. Free workshops will be held every Saturday morning, between May 7th and July 30th at 11AM - 1PM so that you can join in, learn how to crochet, and help to make our neighborhood beautiful! All skills levels welcome. You can see crocheted flowers already at the entrance to the garden at 1000 Sackett Ave, at the end of Colden Ave! This program will run from May 7th through to July 30th, 2022.
Curb Enhancements for ADA compliance on
Morris Park Avenue
We thank the New York City Department of Transportation for their prompt responses to our 311 reports on the need for repairs of the curb at Hone Avenue, and for the additional enhancements to several curbs locations. The team responded quickly upgrading ang enhancing the curbs at the intersection of Hone Ave and Morris Park Ave- thank you for your dedication!
13 New Litter Baskets on Morris Park Avenue
Another big thanks goes out to the New York City Department of Sanitation and Councilwoman Marjorie Velazquez for placing 13 brand new 'silver bullet' trash cans on Morris Park Avenue! Please use them and “Put the litter in its place!”
Community Food & PPE Distribution at Loreto Park
On March 13th we partnered with Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez, Senator Alessandra Biaggi, the New York Common Pantry and the Morris Park Community Association for a free food and PPE distribution event! It was a wonderful way to get the Spring season going and provide food and resources to our Morris Park community!
Safety Concerns on Morris Park Avenue
Within the past few months there has been an increase in break inns on Morris Park. After the Chocolate Place, sadly Conti's Pastry Shoppe windows were shattered and broken into. Similar incidents also took place at Taqueria Aquilar and Burger Time. We strongly recommend all businesses that don’t already have gates protecting their facades, to consider installing them! They can be installed on the inside too, and need to be open-grille to allow at least 70% visibility for fire safety and security reasons. We thank the NYPD 49 Precinct for their fast response to all incidents.
