Raising Kids to Be Smart About Money
Young minds are programmed to absorb and copy the behaviors around them, which means the sooner you instill proper money management skills, the more prone your kids are to become mature and responsible stewards of their own cash-flow in the future.

The following kid-approved strategies help you teach the core tenets of being financially savvy; in terms they’ll understand and appreciate.

THANK YOU, Imagination Library Focus Group Participants!
In February's issue, we asked for interested families to participate in our Imagination Library focus groups!

These focus groups were the last component in a special research project, determining the impact Imagination Library has on childhood literacy in Erie County.

We want to say THANK YOU to all of those participants for helping to identify barriers preventing student and family success. We could not reach our mission to crush
poverty without the input of Erie County
families. You all rock!
Erie's Future Fund Scholarships Available
Did you know United Way supports Erie's Future Fund Scholarships? Administered by our friends at Early Connections, Erie’s Future Fund financially assists families in preparing their children for kindergarten by providing a scholarship to attend quality programs throughout Erie County.

If your child has up to two years before they enter kindergarten and qualifies for the Erie’s Future Fund scholarship, they will be able to attend an approved high-quality Early Childhood Education Program for 3 full days or 5 half-days a week! Learn more at EriesFutureFund.org or contact Kim Beers, Scholarship Director at (814) 874-0144 ext. 15.
Imagination Library Celebrates Diversity
According to Little Free Library's Read in Color initiative, less than 25% of children’s books depict non-white characters. We created a booklist to showcase these stories and increase awareness around diversity. By doing so, we can teach future generations to be inclusive of everyone's identity despite their differences.
Read in Color works to showcase books that ensure ALL children can find themselves in the stories they read and amplify their voices.
Imagination Library Book Spotlight: Spend It!
A charming introduction to simple money concepts in which a bunny learns he can't buy everything he wants with his allowance!

Sonny gets three whole carrots a week for his allowance and wants to buy everything with it! But he soon discovers his money won't go that far, and his mom tells him he needs to make some choices. That doesn't sound like much fun to Sonny, especially when he learns that the bouncy castle he's been eyeing goes for ONE HUNDRED carrots. Ridiculous! But eventually, after a little math and a little more thinking, he has a blast discovering what's really important to him and worth spending his carrots on.

Accompanying Activity for this Book: DIY Spend, Save, Give Jars
Money is such an abstract concept for young children. Spending and saving doesn't mean much to a three year old! However, this month's activity allows your child to create their own spend, save, give jars (with adult help of course!) which offers them the opportunity to watch their savings grow.
