Kristen Beirne, our Vice President of Membership, hosted a new member coffee in her yard on Sunday, September 12, attended by new members carefully and socially distanced with the opportunity to meet our board members, who visited for short intervals. Unfortunately, book collections continue to be suspended and we are unsure when they will resume. Given the unpredictable pandemic situation and our concern for our donors and volunteers’ health, the earliest possible used book collection might be early 2021.
When we return to collections, they would be on the usual schedule which has been September-May and held every other month (the odd numbered months) on the second Saturday of the month.

VOTING IN ILLINOIS IN 2020
Illinois SB1863 was signed into law June 16, 2020. The provisions of this legislation change procedures for the 2020 general election only. Its requirements are funded by the federal Caronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act signed into law March 27, 2020.
|
|
ILLINOIS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
AAUW-IL endorses passage of the amendment since it lowers the taxes on lower income taxpayers, and they consider it a pay equity issue. A flat tax like the current 4.95% on all individuals places a heavier burden on lower income taxpayers.
