Celebrating the International Day of Peace 2020

The UN has declared the 2020 International Day of Peace theme to be "Shaping Peace Together." Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the 21st of September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.

This year we witness our world crying out for Peace, and we are hungry for Unity!

In this month dedicated to Peace, let us recommit to Peace by removing the perception of separation, and engaging in shaping and building Peace together. Let's act to move beyond our collective vision for Peace, by removing perceived borders, boundaries, and limitations - let's work together. It is the only way that Peace will be realized.

"Acting in concert, we do make a difference in the quality of our lives, our institutions, communities and our planetary future. Through co-operation, we manifest the essential Spirit that unites us amidst our diverse ways.- Avon Mattison, Founder and President of PTP

Since its inception in 1981, PTP has worked with the UN to expand awareness of and engage in the International Day of Peace (Peace Day.) Peace Day has grown from a single event of a few hundred people into a global movement that reaches hundreds of millions of people each year. Peace Day, as established by unanimous United Nations resolution in 1981, provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

With a commitment to "Together, building a sustainable Culture of Peace along Diverse Pathways," this year PTP is collaborating with Peacebuilders and Peacebuilding organizations and initiatives to imagine and create "a world at Peace." The need to assure the safety and health of our people has resulted in virtual access to multitudes of ways to participate in Peacebuilding activities around our globe. There are far too many to list in this newsletter, but we have provided some of those opportunities for engagement. We look forward to working with you in Shaping Peace Together, and we wish you Peace!

Peace has never been more important than right now. Faced with a global pandemic, an environmental emergency, an historic refugee crisis and an international struggle for human rights, people everywhere are yearning for peace.   This year, on September 21, millions of viewers in 132 countries will make the choice for peace by participating in the 12th Annual Peace Day Global Broadcast.  The broadcast streams from PeaceChannel.com, the only streaming non-profit network that focuses 24/7 on peace, prosperity and protecting the planet.  It can also be found on the United Nations website for the International Day of Peace, and the Pledge to Peace website of the European Parliament.  The webcast starts at midnight September 20, 2020.

Living in Peace in Times of Crisis: A Dialogue
Tuesday, Sept. 29th and Tuesday, October 6th at 7:00 pm EDT

As a peacebuilder, do you ever feel the need to put on a peaceful front or a happy face, even though your experience in that moment is anything but peaceful? How can we be real in the face of inner and outer disruption? What coping and survival skills and activities most help you to retain inner Peace in these times of local and global crisis?

Kimberly Weichel and Tezikiah Gabriel have teamed up to write an article on living in peace in times of crisis. Born out of their own experiences as Peacebuilders, and as humans living in and through crisis, Kim and Tez are hosting two zoom dialogues on the topic, each with a separate set of ideas, perspectives, and questions on the table. After sharing a few concepts from the article, the audience will be engaged to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Please join us in our zoom room:

Working to End Racism and Coming into Unity:
Healing Talks with Rich Shealey

Over the course of seven weeks, PTP had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Rich Shealey, founder of .... Rich sees ending racism as an opportunity to advance healing and bring us into Unity with one another, which is our natural state. The seven-week "Healing Talks" series is available now:

Rich's work is to create the Optimal Human Community. As stated,
"The mission of The Optimal Human Global Community is to create a global community of consciously empowered people, armed with the original truth about human beings: all humans are biologically and spiritually equal, that the hypothesis of race is a lie, and that institutional racism is designed to divide, separate and confuse the people."
Rich works with individuals, groups, and communities to heal the barrier of racism and to activate each human's true nature.
