HAPPY YEAR OF THE RABBIT!
Past efforts bear fruit this year!
NEW YEAR MANDALAS
Every January I participate in Na Omi Judy Shintani's New Year Mandalas project on Facebook. From January 1st through the 12th I paint, draw, stamp or collage a mandala on the beginning page of each month in my art journal. As I fill my journal pages during the year, I come upon a mandala that reminds me of my intentions for that month. I use mandala-making as a meditation process, to set aside the clutter of the past year and to examine the possibilities of the year in front of me. Indulging in the pleasure of making a small piece of art every day keeps my creativity and energy flowing in an otherwise busy month.

19 + ME
I am thrilled to announce that "19+Me" was selected for the A.I.R. Biennial exhibition, "Friend of the Artist." These figures represent women I've worked with on various feminist exhibitions since 2007. They are Laura Abrams, Elizabeth Addison, Salma Arastu, Tanya Augsburg, Amanda Chaudhary, Sherri Cornett, Karen Gutfreund, Kelly Hammargren, Jaimianne Jacobin, Judy Johnson-Williams, Mido Lee, Hye-Seong Tak Lee, Sandra Mueller, Avinger Nelson, Patricia Rodriguez, Sawyer Rose, Na Omi Judy Shintani, Tamiko Sidore, Tanya Wilkinson...and me, Priscilla Otani. What better than to have all my collaborators participate in this exhibition with me! The exhibition runs from January 7 - February 5, 2023 at the A.I.R. Gallery, 155 Plymouth Street
in Brooklyn, New York.
MY BODY
"MY BODY" was selected for the exhibition, "Roe vs Wade: 2.0" at the Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, Illinois. MY BODY is a hand-stitched pamphlet book made with reproductive medical information sheets (MIS). The MIS include drugs for birth control, morning after, chemical abortion, male sexual dysfunction, menstruation, infertility, and menopause. The female bodies are depicted in wild abandon, sometimes pregnant, sometimes not. Their bodies express sexual and reproductive freedom that medical science affords. Tiny spermatozoa swim around the bodies, looking for a way in. On June 24, 2022 they breached the fortress, depriving many women the right to end pregnancy. Women cannot be complacent with their hard-won rights and freedoms. Everyone must exercise their right to vote and to protest. The exhibition runs from January 28 - March 4, 2023 at the Woman Made Gallery, 2150 S Canalport Ave #4A-3, Chicago, Ilinois.
