God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her,
Through the night with the light from above.
From the mountains to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America, my home sweet home.

Many of us take our freedom and safety for granted, and only rarely take the opportunity to thank those who have made sure our way of life can continue. Veteran’s Day is a federal holiday observed each year on November 11. While the day was initially picked to mark the end of the ‘War to End All Wars’ (World War I), it is now a national celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of their country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” -Abraham Lincoln

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. -John 15:13

Post-Election Webinar
From Alliance Defending Freedom:

Elections Day is a big day and there is a lot at stake in this election – for the future of America and generations to come. Regardless of the outcome, we know God is faithful. In Psalm 20:7, we’re reminded that our trust should never be in chariots or horses – the things of this world. Our confidence is in God and he knows exactly what is going to happen. He has a plan and future carved out for each one of us.

God has equipped Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) to be ready to fight for freedom no matter the outcome of the election (John 15:5). ADF will be hosting a webinar to discuss the state of religious freedom in America, how the election may impact it, and what we see on the horizon for the next four years. We will also share current court cases that affect religious organizations and actionable steps you can take to protect your church.

Prayer Requests
  • For the family of Richard Grice. Richard passed away last Thursday morning. We pray for peace and comfort for his family. Richard served the PSD as a teacher at St. Paul’s, Pomona; Orange Lutheran High School; and Zion, Anaheim, where he also served as Principal. Richard was also a PSD school graduate, having graduated from Los Angeles Lutheran High School. Richard is survived by his wife, Karen, and children, Dennis and Kristen. Dennis is currently serving at Concordia Shanghai.
  • Father, we ask for your mercy and blessing for our nation in light of the elections. We pray for peace and wisdom, and for those newly elected or re-elected. Enable them to diligently seek Your will and lead with the righteousness that exalts a nation while shunning sin that is a reproach to any people. Help us in Your Church to always remember that as Your dear children, our citizenship is in Your Kingdom. Grant us diligence, wisdom and grace to continually work to fulfill Your mission in our communities, our nation and our world.
  • For our veterans. We are thankful for their service and the sacrifices they made for our country. We also pray that we will be faithful soldiers of Jesus Christ!
  • For next week's District-wide Service Day, that it will be a blessing to all those involved.
  • For the planning and preparation of the All Workers Conference. We are looking forward to a wonderful conference!
