Volunteer's Corner
PRAKRITI KALRA
I am a fifth-year PhD candidate in the laboratory of Prof. William Pomerantz in the Department of Chemistry at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I have done my Master’s from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, working with Dr. Debabrata Maiti, in the field of C-H activation. In my doctoral research, I used chemical biology tools to look at epigenetic transcriptional mechanisms. Specifically, I am mapping protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions of a chromatin-binding protein, BRD4, to better understand its role in disease.

I was introduced to Sci-ROI in 2020 and attended their extremely informative annual event. I became a member and used to regularly follow Sci-ROI’s feed through newsletter and social media posts. When the volunteer call came out, I immediately made up my mind to join a team of wonderful and like-minded people. I officially joined Sci-ROI in January 2021 and have been responsible for managing Sci-ROI’s official Slack account and updating the job portal. Given my strong interest in joining Indian industry after finishing Ph.D., I also coordinate Sci-ROI’s industrial outreach and helped organize our focused webinar on “Moving to Industry” in May 2021.
