COACHING: WINDOW WITH A VIEW

October 2020

Compassion and Curiosity
During these turbulent times, it seems as though there is more than ever, a need for us to put into practice, compassion and a sense of curiosity.

An article I read titled, Compassion and Curiosity Keep Us in the Conversation, sparked some thoughts regarding how I approach conversations.

It can be challenging to not infuse our own views into coaching conversations, but if we can pause and take a breath, it can help us stay engaged. And how do we do that?

The author, Janet Baird, a Bright Morning Senior Associate and Contributing blogger, suggests that we access our compassion and find the commonality between the person and ourselves. To read more, review the article, Compassion and Curiosity Keep Us in the Conversation.

Once we have accessed our compassion, then we can shift into a place of curiosity. This is where the deeper work begins, helping to build a stronger relationship with the coachee. The author, Janet Baird advocates for staying “engaged in the conversations that you find most challenging.” This suggestion has the potential to elicit deep rewards, although admittedly, it goes against our natural inclinations. Making it part of the mental and emotional preparation for coaching sessions helps to support an open, curious, and flexible mindset focused on the coachee. Getting to that point opens the door for true exploration and transformation.

Please feel free to share with me how this topic resonates with you.
