Charlotte James of North Pole, Alaska, is a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she is studying applied business management. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in fall 2023, she plans to use her skills and education to help her tribe and community. “The support and financial aid I receive enables me to attend college and to succeed as a nontraditional student,” Charlotte says. In this Storyteller language profile, we speak with the instructor and students from the Native language class at Effie Kokrine Charter School in Fairbanks. The high school students are learning different Doyon region languages using Doyon Languages Online as well as other language-learning programs. They also spend time giving presentations on the languages, watching and discussing documentaries, and working on various projects. 2022 Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic
The 2022 Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic will take place on Thursday and Friday, June 23 – 24, at Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks! The event was established in honor of the late Morris Thompson, president and CEO of Doyon, Limited from 1985 – 2000. Event proceeds support the Morris Thompson memorial scholarship fund, which has awarded $583,680 to 221 students since inception. Foundation Finalizes Strategic Plans for the Future
The Doyon Foundation staff and board of directors recently finalized a set of strategic plans that will guide the future growth and success of the organization. The overarching strategic plan details the Foundation’s 20-year goals and includes detailed goals and action items for year one, year three and year five.
