Please note: The information below on Medicaid redeterminations pertains to people who have NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid. This information is not applicable to individuals who have SSI and Medicaid.
-
When the COVID pandemic began in March 2020, the federal government declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE), which included "continuous Medicaid enrollment", i.e., everyone who already had Medicaid was required to continue receiving Medicaid -- even if they were no longer eligible for that Medicaid category. The federal government has determined that the "continuous Medicaid enrollment" requirement will be ending; therefore, everyone who has NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid will need to complete a Medicaid redetermination application. Starting in April, 2023, NJ Medicaid will begin mailing Medicaid redetermination applications to everyone who has NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid. These renewal applications will be mailed over a period of 12 months. Whenever a caregiver of an individual with an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) receives a letter from NJ Medicaid, it is very important to respond promptly. Keeping Medicaid for individuals with IDD is essential because if there is a lapse in Medicaid coverage, then DDD services will also be halted.
- In this fireside chat, The Arc of New Jersey's Beverly Roberts, will provide information to help families understand
- What they should do now to prepare for Medicaid redeterminations
- What to anticipate when the Medicaid redetermination process starts
- What should happen if a person with IDD is eligible for an NJ Medicaid category that is different from the type of Medicaid they had in the past
