The Skokie School Home Scoop

Dear Skokie Community,

Thank you for joining us for our annual Go to School Night last Thursday! We appreciate you making the time to learn more about our classrooms and curriculum so that we can effectively partner together between school and home.  If you were unable to attend, we hope you are able to view the teachers' presentations, which your child's advisor likely emailed to you.
Our school level presentation is linked here
one more time for your convenience. It has come to our attention that some of the videos worked on a computer, but not on an iPad.

Schoology
One important topic we addressed from a school level at Go to School Night is parent usage of Schoology. Parent access codes were shared with you last week (either your child brought a paper with it written down in their backpack, or your teacher emailed them home).  This document will walk you through accessing the parent portal through Schoology. Once you have your account set up, you will be able to view work your child has submitted, as well as see if they have any missing work.

MAP Testing: This Week
Skokie Students in the Hybrid Model will be MAP testing this week on Tuesday and Thursday. Please support the students in being able to show what they know on this assessment by helping them to have a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast or lunch before heading to school. These assessments will be one of many data points that we use to help us understand your child as a learner.

Foundation Video
If you did not have a chance to view the video that the Winnetka Schools Foundation Co-Chairs created when reviewing our Go to School Night Presentation, please take a moment to watch it.

District News
Fall MAP Testing
District 36 has established a robust suite of assessments utilizing multiple measures to provide information on student performance. One of those tools is the  Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test. Fall testing will occur between September 21 - October 2nd with all students in Grades 3 - 8 taking one Reading Test and one Math test.   Your child's building or teacher will inform you of his or her specific testing dates.

The MAP Assessment is designed to measure a student's achievement level at different times of the school year and compute growth over time.  MAP is a computer-adaptive test, which means every student receives a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions.  This provides a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student's learning level.   Fall MAP results will be sent to families on  October 16th.  Additional information on the MAP assessment may be found on our district website at www.winnetka36.org/Page/334.

Safety Reminder
Together, we have a shared responsibility to foster safe and healthy practices within our community. This starts in each of our homes and extends to our schools and beyond. Our hope is that we are able to continue to learn in-person and we need community cooperation in order to make this possible from a metrics standpoint.
  • If your family plans to travel this fall, please reference this guidance from the Cook County Department of of Public Health.  It is essential that you follow travel and quarantine protocols.
  • Social Distancing/Mask Wearing - Please encourage your children to be mindful of social distancing and wearing masks both on and off campus. Events like birthday parties and other gatherings have the potential to transmit the virus. Please use caution in order to support the collective well-being of our school community.
Thank you for your cooperation as we navigate this difficult time together.

Opportunity from The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library

The Winnetka Northfield Public Library is offering an online card application option for students who don't currently have a library card. This is a great opportunity for students to take advantage of all the amazing digital and print resources the library offers. Here is a letter with further details, and here is a form to apply. The library will create accounts within 24 hours of receiving the request and email the library card number to the card holder. Please contact the Public Library with all questions and to return the application form: youth@winnetkalibrary.org

Replies to this email will be sent directly to Betty Weir. Please note that unsubscribing from this email will unsubscribe from all Winnetka School emails.
