Around Campus
Seventh and eighth graders are getting settled in at the start of school with Upper School Math Teacher, Mrs. Dawn Eckstein.
Middle School Mathematicians
Mrs. Eckstein, Summit Upper School Math Teacher, is so excited to get started with the 2021-2022 school year. Top priority for middle school math will be getting to know each other and developing classroom norms. Sixth grade will move into a unit on area, while integrated math students slide into a unit on transformations. The first unit for Algebra I students is statistics, which provides a great opportunity to tell stories with numbers.
Welcome to Mrs. Griffin, Lower School Art

Linda received her BSE in art education from Arkansas State University and her MSE in secondary education with an emphasis in art education from Southwest Baptist University. In 2002, she was honored with the title of Missouri Middle School Art Teacher of the year and then Missouri Secondary Art Teacher of the Year a few years later. Summit Early Learners enjoy spending three days a week in Music class with Mrs. Meredith Taylor, Summit Lower School Music Teacher.
Lower School Music: Hitting all the High Notes!
Mrs. Taylor, The Summit's Lower School Music teacher, is very excited to be making music with lower school Summit learners! Students will sing, move in rhythm, train their ears to differentiate intervals and tonalities, explore the music of many cultures, and hone their critical listening skills. With an emphasis on keyboard skills, students will develop an understanding of scales and chords essential to future musical endeavors.

Mrs. Taylor looks forward to collaborating with other Summit teachers to reinforce topics covered in their classes. For instance, Early Learners will identify sounds made by things they see up in the sky, and fifth grade students might compose songs about plate tectonics and volcanoes.
Athletics & Activities
Summit fourth graders, Vivien and Estella, practice their relay handoff during the first session of Running Club.
Running Club: 2nd-6th Graders
During the hottest week of the year, The Summit's Running Club held their first session! Under the direction of Summit parents Angela Tang and Angela Teters, Summit second through sixth graders escaped the heat to practiced drills and relay handoffs inside the building on Tuesday. "I thought the games were really fun to play with each other," said Summit fourth grader Estella M. "Running is something that I like to do. I am looking forward to next week!"

Summit Girl Scouts had a great time kayaking the James River with 37N Expeditions last weekend! They floated (with and without boats), enjoyed a picnic lunch, learned how to paddle and how to read the river, learned how to get in the boats when they fell into the water, enjoyed some serious water fights, and finished with Andy's frozen custard riverside-style! It was a perfect way to spend a hot, humid Ozarks summer day!
Girl Scouts: First Meeting of the Year!
The Summit Girl Scouts are hosting their first meeting of the school year this weekend, and all are welcome! If you have a Summit student (Kindergarten and up) interested in learning more about Girl Scouts, contact Summit Troop Leader and Summit Parent, Shelley Beall, for more information!

The Summit Girl Scouts are also looking for a parent interested in co-leading our youngest group, the Daisies (Kindergarten & 1st grade). If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Shelley Beall.
Summit Parent Organization
Summit students had a blast at the Back to School Bash in the Big Backyard! Thank you to SPO for hosting such a fun community event!
First General Meeting of the School Year
As a Summit Parent or Guardian, you are a member of the Summit Parent Organization (SPO). SPO was formed in 2007 as a link between parents, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees to enhance communication and foster a partnership to create the best learning environment possible.

The first SPO Meeting of 2021-2022 will be held on campus on Thursday, August 26th at 9:00 am. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Rachel Rothwell, SPO President, so we can be sure to have enough chairs for everyone.
Volunteer Training, Thursday 8/26 at 10:00 am
The Summit will be hosting a volunteer training training this Thursday, August 26th immediately following the SPO Meeting.

Volunteer trainings cover all the important information needed to volunteer as a class celebration assistant, chaperone, or driver for school fields trips and events.

Volunteers should bring their driver's license, most recent proof of insurance, and picture of license plate to show up-to-date registration on the day of volunteer training. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of running a background check ($15.25 that will be charged to your family account).

For more information, please contact Becky Breckner, Summit Guidance Counselor.
