From the President
"I'm writing my check today..."

Just a few words of thanks to all our NHF supporters. If 2020 has taught us anything about a foundation’s path, it is never about a single destination…it is about the long-term journey. It is an investment in the future of the industry and a clear understanding of the importance of giving.

I would like to share with you a little bit about your industry dollars at work. NHF has provided over $650,000.00 in research support over the years. Even during a pandemic, we were able to fund research in the amount of $124,000. The following are projects that will be conducted in 2021.

  • Improved Precision Irrigation of Trees in Planning and Managing Florida Friendly Landscapes - Dr. Richard Beeson and Hang Duong, Mid Florida Research and Education Center, Apopka, FL
  • Using LEDs to Improve Longevity of Living Green Walls - Dr. Celina Gomez and Dr. Paul Fisher, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
  • Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge for Measuring Leaching Fraction in a Container Nursery Dr. Tom Yeager, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
  • Evaluation of soil fungi inoculants as biofertilizers for foliage plants - Dr. Sarah Emery, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY

For more information about the previous projects, visit FNGLA SHARE and NHF Funded Research tool to access the reports.

NHF has provided over $425,000 in financial support to more than 300 students pursuing their careers in horticulture or related fields. These students will be the next generation of industry leaders. This year, NHF awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to students from Florida’s universities and community colleges, The Ohio State, University of Illinois, and Purdue University. It is our mission to provide a pathway for these students so they can help this industry thrive in the future.

In the past we would have presented our checks at the TPIE/NHF reception. Obviously, that was cancelled this year. Please join me as I write my check to NHF today. You can simply send the check to 1533 Park Center Drive, Orlando, FL 32835 or text the word GREEN to 41444. A gift of any size can make a difference. Choose now to make an impact on the future of the industry.

Sincerely,
George Hackney, NHF President
