Introducing a New Conversation Series for ArtWorks: Viva Voce

Join ArtWorks for Viva Voce, a series of creative conversations with Artists and ArtWorks’ Alumni. Today, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region has a global reputation as an arts destination and is full of talented working creatives. ArtWorks invites you to connect with artists who are changing our city with groundbreaking works of art throughout our community. Hear artists speak about their artwork and current issues in this series.

Meet the creative team behind ArtWorks’ latest mural, Time Saved vs. Time Served, on Thursday, December 3 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. The panel will include 2 of the artistic directors of the mural, social justice activist and recent Art Academy of Cincinnati commencement speaker Tyra Patterson and Philadelphia artist Russell Craig.

ArtWorks' Jump Start: Fueling Emerging Artists awardee, Jay DeFazio has officially launched, Inside Out, a community-based art initiative celebrating the strength, beauty, and resiliency of transgender individuals through self-portraits.

Camp cARTwheel Saturday Sessions now free!
The Saturday sessions of Camp cARTwheel, a virtual arts and culture camp by ArtWorks, Wave Pool and The Well, are now free and open to the public!

Secret ArtWorks Auction Now Live!
As you may have heard, ArtWorks' fall fundraiser Secret ArtWorks will live on despite COVID-19. We're taking a virtual turn and coming right into your home this year to keep everyone happy and healthy.

The Everything But The House auction is now life until Thursday, November 19. Then in Secret ArtWorks style, the artist identities will be revealed during our virtual event on Nov. 20!

The art for this year's fundraiser is a bit different. Artists were commissioned to create an original piece of any size. We are honored to share the proceeds of the auction with the artists.

For this event, we were limited in the number of artists who could participate, but we look forward to expanding opportunities in the future.

If you are interested in being part of the Friday virtual event, Secret ArtWorks House Party will feature a cocktail demonstration by HomeMakers Bar, a DJ spinning your favorites, and celebrity guest experiences. Guests will also enjoy take-home Party Packs including cans of Rhinegeist beer, original art pieces from the Secret ArtWorks vault, and more!
COVID-19 Artist Resources

Organizations across the country are stepping into action for artists. Several have compiled resource lists for emergency relief funds, grants, educational webinars, legal advice and more. See some of our favorites below:


ArtsWave | Arts Grant Programs
ArtsWave recently announced a city-wide effort to offer pandemic relief for the arts sector, thanks partially to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Together with Duke Energy and the City of Cincinnati, they are offering different grant opportunities for artists:

  • $1,000 artist relief grants through the CARES Act for city of Cincinnati-based artists in any discipline (currently pool is $200,000). The first deadline is November 20.
  • $10,000 Black & Brown Artist Project Grants on the theme of Truth & Reconciliation, for projects that will be completed by June 1, 2021. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2020. All artists of Black, African American, Indigenous, Bi-Racial or of Latino descent in the Cincinnati and NKY region are eligible for this program. ROMAC and Freedom Center are ArtsWaves' partners.The total pool is $200,000.
Cincinnati Artist Census
Research is being conducted locally for the Cincinnati Artist Census by Miami University graduate student Jeni Barton via ArtsWave.

The study aims to figure out how Cincinnati can attract and retain artist talent. It will inform future planning as follow up to our 2019 Cincinnati Artist Report with Wave Pool.

Ohio Citizens for the Arts | Anti-Racism Resources + Tools
Ohio Citizens for the Arts has compiled a lengthy list of anti-racism resources and tools. The list includes funding opportunities to support artists of color, guides for integrating anti-racist practices into your arts organization, and help for sharing stories through your art.
