Three Art Shows in May at EGFAC

Open Fine Arts, Swell, and Stop Stigma

On Exhibition May 7-26, 2022

May is a big month at the Center as we present three unique art experiences that will inspire you and your entire family. In the main gallery you'll find our 10th annual Open Fine Arts exhibition - a competition show with cash prizes for winning artists. In the Foyer Gallery Amy Vidra shares Swell, a celebration of emotions, memories, and the passing of time. We are also pleased to host Stop Stigma Sacramento's exhibition of the "Mental Illness: It's Not Always What You Think" project as part of Mental Health Month.

Read on to learn about each of these exhibitions plus some exciting art workshops that are now open for registration. And don't forget about the Big Day of Giving on May 5, 2022.

Judged by Michelle Andres

We are thankful to Michelle Andres, contemporary American oil painter and writer, who judged this year's 10th annual Open Fine Arts Competition Show.

This year's collection celebrates work in drawing & pastel, sculpture, oil & acrylic, water media, and photography.

Winners of Best of Show and 1st/2nd in each category will be announced at 5:30PM on First Saturday, May 7.

Swell, by Amy Vidra

Swell, is a collection of work that began out of 2020. It’s the swell of the tides, the emotions, and the world moving around me. It’s the processing of events, emotions, recollection of memories, and the passing of time. Like the swelling of emotion, like the oceans swell, we ebb and flow.

** The artist will present a talk on Saturday May 21 at 5PM in the gallery. **

Stop Stigma Sacramento

May is Mental Health Month, and the Elk Grove Fine Arts Center is pleased to showcase work curated by Stop Stigma Sacramento as part of the “Mental Illness: It’s not always what you think” project. All art displayed will help to dispel myths and stereotypes about mental illness and promote messages of wellness, hope, and recovery.
