2016 La Petite Lune Rouge
Bordeaux, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With famed consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt at the helm, Domaine de Chevalier owner Olivier Bernard has created a new entry level project that, as you can imagine, totally over-delivers.
Elegant and bright, its leading flavors of fresh cassis and black raspberry are balanced by dusty earth, tobacco and light cedar tones on the finish. The longer the wine sits in the glass, the more impressive the flavors and texture become. This is legit Bordeaux, and the price is simply fantastic.
"Lots of ripe, fresh redcurrant and red-cherry character here. The discreet dry tannins and herbal freshness give this sleek red Bordeaux a lot of appeal. The crisp finish makes it very food-friendly. Drink or hold. A blend of 50 per cent merlot, 45 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 5 per cent cabernet franc. Drink or hold"
- 90 Points, James Suckling (2/3/2019)
The 2016 La Petite Lune is a delight now and will continue to drink beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years. A crazy amount of wine for this price.
A "Rich, Voluptuous and Dramatic" Bordeaux from the Bonnie Family!
2015 Château Malartic Lagravière Rouge
Pessac Léognan, Graves, Bordeaux, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of our favorite family owned properties in the Pessac Léognan district of Bordeaux is Château Malartic Lagravière. Owned and operated by the Bonnie family, their full-throttle wines are amongst the best of the region.

As evidenced by this pair of 96+ and 96 point reviews, they rocked it in 2015. This is the kind of wine that will make a Bordeaux lover out of a fan of classic Napa Cab. It has all the structure and complexity one expects from Bordeaux, along with the power that makes Napa reds such an experience!

"The 2015 Malartic Lagravière is just as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, voluptuous and dramatic, it captures all of the natural intensity of the year. Black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, licorice and French oak build into a crescendo of stunning aromas, flavors and textures. This is in an especially dark, sumptuous style, but it all works beautifully. The 2015 was positively thrilling each of the three times I tasted it. Drinking window: 2023 - 2035."
- 96+ Points, Vinous - Antonio Galloni (12/2017)

"Full of black-currant flavor, this firm wine has structure and a rich texture. Its bolstering tannins and vibrant acidity mark out an age-worthy selection. Spice tones and a dry core set the stage for a slow development into an even more complex and fulfilling wine. Drink from 2025."
- 96 Points, Wine Enthusiast (4/1/2018)

Median online price for this classic blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc is $65. As usual, we're a few bucks less. Drink now with a good decanting, or enjoy over the coming decade or two!
