Connections
November 10, 2021
On this Veterans Day, join in praying: Gracious Lord, receive our grateful thanks for all who have served our country in the armed forces, putting themselves in harm’s way to protect the citizens of our land. Help us to honor them for the sacrifices they have made. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Lord God, bring true freedom and peace to each one of us by reminding us of the victory won by Christ Jesus, through His death and resurrection. Amen.

“For freedom Christ has set us free.” Galatians 5:1

MONDAY NIGHT'S BANQUET
This year’s banquet will be very special! We will be recognizing our Educators of the Year, having a special performance of encouragement by Monique Nunes, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coach at Concordia University, Irvine, and will be honoring our most special attendees – YOU, the educators of the CNH and Pacific Southwest Districts! You won’t want to miss this wonderful event!

WORSHIP OFFERING AND THANKOFFERING
Each year at LEC two offerings are taken: the Worship Offering and the Thankoffering.

This year’s worship offering will be directed to LeadaChild. The monies will be specifically directed to their Teachers Helping Teachers project. You might recall that LeadaChild was our 2020-2021 Hearts for Jesus recipient. Teachers Helping Teachers builds a scholarship fund for the raising up and training of teachers who serve in the developing countries where LeadaChild schools are located.

As is our custom every year, the Thankoffering is a suggested $1 per year of service donation that is collected from PSD educators to provide scholarships for the children of Rostered church workers to attend a Concordia University and become a Rostered church worker. Administrators were emailed information and a remittance form for the Thankoffering on November 3. If you didn’t receive that email, please contact School Ministries. Please collect your Thankoffering together as a staff and select a designee from your staff to bring it forward at the designated time during Monday’s banquet.

There are two ways to give to both of these offerings:
  1. In Person: The offering for LeadaChild will be collected Sunday afternoon at the worship service. You can deposit your checks, payable to Pacific Southwest District, in the collection baskets, or you can Text to Give using (855) 931-3232. You can designate your giving for worship by using LEC2021. The Thankoffering can be brought to the collection box in an envelope from each school by their designee at the banquet on Monday night or you can utilize the Text to Give option for the Thankoffering and use the code LECTHANK when dialing the number above.
  2. If you are not attending LEC and would still like to participate in either or both of the offerings, please utilize the Text to Give option. You can also send a check payable to Pacific Southwest District to the attention of School Ministries – 1540 Concordia, Irvine, CA 92612, or you can also utilize PayPal on the District website by using this link

Thank you for your generous hearts toward both of these worthwhile offering recipients!

ON SITE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUNDAY, NOV. 21

Regional Mission Councils
Grant Applications Now Available
Each Regional Mission Council (RMC) is charged with the local distribution of an annual budget allocation from the Pacific Southwest District Board of Directors. In coordination with the District, the local RMC will work to coordinate and evaluate the applications of Grantees. The RMC has the freedom and authority to distribute three types of funding: Innovation, Incubation, and Impact Grants.
Innovation Grants (up to $5,000): to spark missional thinking and provide seed funds to experiment in reaching a new community with the Gospel. Examples such as starting an ESL class, starting a preschool or after-school reading program, or launching a new worship service could qualify for an Innovation Grant.

Incubation Grants (up to $20,000): to partner with leaders and core groups in order to provide necessary support to new mission endeavors resulting in sustained Christian community. Incubation grants are for building momentum for ongoing programs like a small group ministry, infant care for a preschool, or beginning work to plant a new church with another culture group.

Impact Grants (up to $50,000): to offer new mission starts significant funding support to build the systems and capacity necessary for a new congregation, school, or mission agency. As a ministry develops and is now considering building scale, examples might include additional staffing, building renovations, or capital equipment purchases.

Grateful and Giving Thanks
One Minute for November 2021
Our nation has been observing Thanksgiving since November 26, 1789, after President George Washington signed a proclamation calling the nation to a “Day of Public Thanksgiving.” While several states celebrated Thanksgiving on different Thursdays, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a proclamation in 1941 that Congress agreed to call on states to observe Thanksgiving on the same day. Since that time our nation has been unified on Thanksgiving.

Our nation has been blessed in many ways. It is good for our nation to “pause” and to consider and celebrate our many blessings. As we gather with family members, friends and even strangers, we lift our prayers to God with grateful hearts.

Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is excited to present their Fall series, Creativity for a Dynamic Workplace. Join two renowned speakers who will share different perspectives on how they have experienced dynamic workplaces and helped facilitate a creative space for their work communities–from the restaurant industry to the military.

Prayer Requests
  • Prayers from St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Preschool, San Diego:
  • Prayers of thanksgiving for increased enrollment and thriving students!
  • St. Paul's includes military families as almost 50% of our total enrollment. Prayers for these families as they experience a parent deployed, mid-year moves, and God's protection throughout the year!
  • For Rev. Dr. Marty Schramm. He has recently been diagnosed with cancer in several places of his body. Prayers for God's wisdom in the next steps, thanksgiving that Marty is not in pain, healing according to God's will, and opportunities to serve Him in the journey. Marty served faithfully at Concordia University Irvine for many years and was one of the founding faculty members. Please pray for Marty's wife, Conni, a teacher at Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, CA, as she walks this journey with him and cares for him.
  • For Rev. Mike Scholz, who is recovering from significant surgery. Pastor Scholz is the sole pastor at Lamb of God, Las Vegas, NV, and is very involved with their school.
  • For our veterans. We are thankful for their service and the sacrifices they made for our country.
  • For next week's District-wide Service Day, that it will be a blessing to all those involved.
