Dear fellow defender of life:
I hope this finds you and yours well and ready to enjoy better days ahead.
I wanted to remind you that, regrettably, we have decided to cancel this year’s Great Defender of Life Dinner, which was scheduled for October. The Foundation’s Board and staff agreed that things in New York City are just too unstable and it would be an unjustified risk to proceed.
But remember that special keepsake journal we want to produce?
While we may not be having a Great Defender of Life Dinner this year, the pandemic has made crystal clear how many heroic defenders of life there are all around us.
These are everyday heroes. You know them, some of them are you, and we’d like to give you the chance to join us in a heartfelt salute.
We invite you to join us in honoring those who deserve our gratitude. Sadly, we have also lost friends and loved ones during this time, and will be paying tribute to them as well, as a celebration of their good lives.
We are putting together a full-color booklet, which will be a keepsake, filled with pages of appreciation. Our aim is to produce something beautiful in a time of discord and anxiety.
We already have a great turnout of beautiful tributes. But we want yours, too!
We are not looking to “sell” these pages, just to cover the modest cost, so we are offering you, on a first-come first-served basis, $100 for a full page, $50 for a half page. You may submit color photos, drawings, text—simple instructions are here. If you want a memorial or tribute to be listed, and send in a name only, we will list it at no cost to you.
Having said that, the cancellation of this year’s dinner does pose a worrying situation for us, because for some time now, the dinner has raised a full one quarter of our needed yearly support. Going forward, we just don’t know what the current economic realities will mean for us. And so, again, we need to ask that those who are able to do so please continue to send sustaining support.
