๐Ÿ“ฉ A LETTER FROM LEADERSHIP ๐Ÿ“ฉ
Hello and welcome back to another school year in the Wauwatosa School District!

As I've settled into my new role, I've been consistently impressed with the engagement, commitment and resilience displayed by each and every member of our educational community. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to a few very special groups.

First, thank you to all of our staff who have returned to buildings this school year to support and educate our students. I have been visiting schools over the past several days and it brings me so much joy to see our students having fun and learning alongside their friends.

To our students, thank you for caring so deeply about others in your educational community. By diligently adhering to physical distancing and keeping one another safe, you're helping to keep our schools open for in-person instruction.

And to our families, thank you for choosing the Wauwatosa School District and providing us with the opportunity to educate your child. Every day, you entrust our staff with your most precious treasure and we are grateful for your trust and your belief in the Wauwatosa School District.

Sincerely,

Dr. Demond Means

A Message from the Hart Park Senior Center
The Wauwatosa Senior Centers at Hart Park and the Civic Center are celebrating National Senior Center Month during September.

๏ปฟThis past year, our senior programs have sown a great deal โ€“ probably more than ever imagined. As senior center professionals, we shined a light on our centers by demonstrating how vital they are to the health and well-being of our community. We adapted our programs to virtual and outdoor overnight and by doing so, we continued to safely provide means of social engagement and activity during bleak times. Our centers became call centers for seniors and their families, we provided social service referrals and voter assistance while becoming teachers and advisors for technological connectivity. We became even more integral for connecting seniors with meals, food delivery, transportation and healthcare by providing accurate COVID-19 guidance and scheduling vaccination appointments for those without access to technology. We have continued to play a role in addressing an issue we knew was important long before the pandemic: social isolation. Our Senior Centers are open again, but they will never be business as usual going forward. Please help us celebrate by stopping by and saying hello!
This Weekend: Junior Trojans Boys Basketball Tryouts

Wauwatosa Elementary School Principal Earns Doctorate Degree
Congratulations to Dr. Michelle Miner for earning her Doctorate!

Dr. Miner, who currently serves as the Principal of Lincoln Elementary School, recently earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Miner states, "My research focused on the development of mental health literacy among educators as they strive to address the increasing number of elementary students diagnosed with anxiety and depression. This work was driven by my desire to create inclusive environments that support the mental well-being of our students, foster a sense of belonging in our schools, and further our understanding of the importance of social and emotional learning.

As the first woman in my family to attend college, completing my doctorate has been a lifelong learning goal. I am extremely grateful for the support of my staff, my colleagues, and the Wauwatosa School District as I pursued this dream."
