Hunterdon Officials In Virtual Ceremony On Veterans Day

In Honor Of Veterans

|
Fifty seven Hunterdon County Veterans who received the County’s recognition medal this year, including an Air Force fighter pilot originally from the County who spent nearly six years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, were honored by the County’s elected officials in a ceremony on Veterans Day, November 11th, livestreamed from the Historic Courthouse through Facebook and the County’s website, while the Courthouse bell tolled honoring those who have served the nation.
The County’s first ever virtual Veterans Medal ceremony was necessitated by postponement of the Hunterdon 4H Fair where the medal ceremony usually takes place. Instead, medals were distributed individually to Veterans on their doorstep, over the course of the fall, to protect their health.
Both Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren and Deputy Director Sue Soloway participated in distributing medals to the Veterans’ homes and in the ceremony program.

Hunterdon County Ballot Counting Update; Nov 12th |
|
A record 81,910 ballots cast by Hunterdon County voters have been counted so far by the County Board of Elections, representing an 82.75% voting turnout, according to unofficial results posted by the Hunterdon County Clerk, as of November 12th.
More ballots are still being processed. County Clerk Mary Melfi will certify the election returns, as required by law, on November 20, 2020.
Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren, a Republican, remains the highest vote getter of all candidates for all offices in the County with 45,685 votes received versus 31,980 for Democratic Freeholder candidate Patrick Heller.

Strategic Plan
Provides Blueprint For Growth

The Hunterdon County Library Commission has approved a Library Strategic Plan designed to provide the blueprint for the needed growth of library services to meet the needs of public, Freeholder Zach Rich, the liaison to the Library Commission, reported at a recent Freeholder meeting.
Rich reported, “There is a recognition that many people still rely on the library for book borrowing, which is its foundational mission. However, in my opinion, Libraries have to keep evolving in order to continue to have value for the public.”
