Gann Receives DAR Good Citizenship Award
Prince senior Claire Gann was recently awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizenship Award for Prince Avenue Christian School. Prince high school faculty select a senior who displays dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to receive the award. Claire was chosen because she encompasses these qualities in school and in her community.

Prince National Art Honor Society members, along with faculty and staff, created 57 beautiful handmade pottery bowls and filled them with themed goodies for the 12th Annual Empty Bowls Silent Auction. The auction raised a record $6500 dollars to benefit Bigger Vision of Athens, a local homeless shelter.
Student Government Sponsors Food Drive

The Prince high school Student Government recently held a school-wide food drive to benefit Children's Hospital of Atlanta. Prince students donated snack food that will help families with children in the hospital.

Capps and David Named STAR Students

Seniors Cooper Capps and Wade David have been named the 2023 STAR Students for Prince Avenue Christian School, scoring the highest score in one sitting of the SAT test this year. Cooper selected high school Bible teacher Greg Rentz as his STAR Teacher, and Wade selected high school science teacher Carrie Owens as his STAR Teacher.
Academics Around Campus
Prince Parent Colonel Mike “Homie” McGinn recently visited campus to speak to high school students during “Lunch and Learn. Col McGinn is a pilot in the Alabama Air National Guard and spoke with students about the different ways to pursue the field of aviation.
Mrs. Barry's U.S. History classes recently completed a project on the American Anti-Slavery movement coinciding with the observation of Black History Month. Students created a poster highlighting an important historical figure in the movement.
The Prince JV Academic Team recently concluded a great season at the Commerce JV/Novice Tournament. Prince had an exciting finish winning four out of seven matches and coming back to win the last match by 10 after a 75-point deficit. Congratulations to these students on a great academic team season!
Using strawberries and household chemicals, Mrs. Sosbee’s 7th-grade science students learned how to extract DNA from an organism. Strawberries are an excellent source for DNA extraction study because each cell has eight copies of the genome giving strawberries a large amount of DNA per cell.
Mr. Taylor's 5th-grade science students recently enjoyed a presentation from guest speaker Jennifer Broun with Walton EMC. Ms. Broun demonstrated to students the relationship between current and magnetism.
Prince 3rd-graders recently enjoyed a visit from Dr. Nick Fuhrman from the University of Georgia where he is a professor in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Prince 3rd-graders are studying the adaptations that plants and animals have in each of the five physiographic regions of Georiga.

Prince Band Students Named
to District Honor and All-State Bands
Three Prince Avenue middle school band students were recently named to the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 14 Middle School Honor Band. Nate Murray, Koen Hewett, and Jack Bunnell (pictured left to right) performed with the honor band at Riverside Military Academy on February 4th, 2023.
High school students Gracie Cochran, Jenifer Dunn, Preston Mitchell, Meredith Hale, and Carly Land (pictured left to right) were named to the GMEA High School District 14 Honor Band and performed at Jefferson High School on February 11th, 2023.

Jenifer Dunn and Preston Mitchell have been named to the 2023 Georgia All-State Band. Jennifer plays the flute, and Preston plays the trumpet. They will rehearse and perform with the prestigious All-State Band March 2-4 at the Athens Classic Center.

Freshman Carly Land, who plays the euphonium, has been named an alternate and will participate if an opening is available.

Congratulations to these band students for their excellence in fine arts.

Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team who concluded region play 4-2 and placed second in the Region 5A, Division 1 Tournament.
Both the varsity girls and boys basketball teams concluded their seasons competing in the first round of state playoffs losing close hard-fought games versus Mt. Pisgah Christian School. Additionally, senior Robert Skaggs, known for his "slam dunks", is one of five players nominated for the GHSA slam dunk voting contest. Congratulations to these varsity athletes on a great season!

After a winning season and a regular season record of 20-3, the Prince Avenue Christian School middle school boys basketball team recently won the Athens Area Middle School Championship. The Wolverines competed against George Walton Academy in the final winning 28-25. The team is coached by Prince parent Charles Ficken. Congratulations to these athletes on a great season!
Douglas and Stockton Sign
to Play College Sports

Prince Avenue seniors James Douglas and Bailey Stockton signed this week to play sports at the college level.

James Douglas signed to play golf at the University of North Georgia (UNG). Head Coach Jimmy Phillips explains that the entire Prince golf family joins in the congratulations for James’s decision to play at UNG. “Although James has played competitive golf for only two years, in that time he has improved his game tremendously. I am confident that this growth will continue as he begins his collegiate career in the fall. It is always satisfying as a coach to see a young man take advantage of a talent with which he has been blessed by God.” During his time as a Wolverine, James and his teammates were GHSA Golf State Champions for two years in a row.

Bailey Stockton signed to play football at Georgia Tech. Head Coach Greg Vandagriff says that the Prince football program appreciates all that Bailey did for the Wolverines. “Georgia Tech is getting a heck of a football player and a better human being. We are expecting great things from him and want to wish him the very best of luck. Go Jackets!” During his time as a Wolverine, Bailey and his teammates won two GHSA Football State Championships.

Media Center Activity Sparks Imagination
for Young Students
If you had been near the Prince Media Center over a recent weekend in February, you may have heard commotion coming from the library and spotted a group of friends watching a movie, doing a craft, reading a story, or eating a snack. But these were no ordinary friends; these were Prince kindergarten Sleepy Buddies!

Prince Media Center Specialist Danny Delgado is always searching for unique ways to inspire his young students toward the love of reading. “We want our students to associate reading with pleasure, joy, and enthusiasm.” Mr. Delgado certainly inspired enthusiasm with his recent kindergarten “Sleepy Buddy Library Sleepover”!

The Prince Parent Teacher Fellowship hosted a wonderful event for fathers and daughters at the "Denim and Pearls" dinner and dance event! Many thanks to all of the volunteers who made this special night so memorable!

Eley Presents Research
at Education Conference
Prince alumna Erin Eley (’21) recently had the privilege of presenting a research paper to the Georgia Educational Research Association Conference sponsored by Georgia Southern University and held at the Savannah campus of Georgia Tech. Erin presented her paper entitled, “Benefits and Dangers of Advanced Placement Courses” to an audience of doctoral students and college professors and was given positive feedback on the quality of her research and presentation. Erin’s original paper was for one of her education courses at the University of North Georgia.
