Monday, February 22: First staff vaccination day; All Students remote with asynchronous work
February 23-26: Regular hybrid schedule
February 24: PTA Council Meeting 7:00 p.m.
March 1-12: All students ALL IN!
March 9: ACT Day for all Juniors. Grades 6-8 will report to school as scheduled. Grades 9, 10, 12: Teachers will assign asynchronous work for all classes that day. We will need all available teachers to assist with protocoling the ACT and will need utilize more rooms to provide appropriate spacing. Juniors will be dismissed after they are finished with the ACT. Self-contained special education units will report as usual.
March 15: Second staff vaccination day; All Students remote with asynchronous work
March 16: Staff vaccination recovery day; All students remote with asynchronous work
March 17 and on: All students all in!
April 2-9: Spring Break

Julia I.~ 6th Grade
Julia I. is our 6th grade Warrior of the Week! Julia has really stepped up her game since the beginning of the year. She has taken an active role in her education and has become a leader in class. Julia is not afraid to ask questions and is often found leading her group members during small group activities. She has begun working ahead in all of her classes making sure that her focus areas and other work are done well before the blue line passes. Keep up the good work Julia!

Ilse H. ~ 7th Grade
Ilse H. is our 7th grade Warrior of the Week! Ilse exhibits phenomenal qualities that set her apart from her peers. She is always enthusiastic about coming to class, and has a genuine love for learning. In Art Ilse consistently adds insightful comments to every class discussion, and participates with enthusiasm when challenged with creativity. She is particularly talented at expressing ideas and emotions through cartoon artwork and illustrations. As one can see Ilse is a leader who makes a positive impact on her peers and teachers. Ilse's love of learning is contagious among her peers. She brings her zest for learning to all her classes and all her teachers appreciate that! The 7th grade team is extremely proud of you, and cannot wait to see you progress through the rest of the 7th grade year! Way to go Ilse!

Clare Q. is our 8th grade Warrior of the Week! Clare is a conscientious student who cares a great deal about doing well in school. She has consistently engaged in each assignment with patient determination and resolution to see it through. She has also shown proficiency in the arts through her dedication to the craft and her ability to tell stories through drawing. Above all academic success, Clare is a genuinely caring human being who always has a kind word for her peers and teachers. Keep up the great work!

Colin M. is our 12th grade Warrior of the Week! Colin is one of those silently amazing students. He works hard, is a polite young man, and shows pride in all he strives to accomplish. It is so fun to engage in discussion with Colin as he doesn't hesitate to challenge someone's view on a topic. At the same time he shows maturity beyond his peers in his willingness to have his views challenged as well. Keep being awesome, Colin!

Tuesday Tours and Career Tech Visits Give Students
an In-Person Look at Polaris!

Sophomores, parents and prospective adult education students are invited to take an in-person guided tour of Polaris during Tuesday Tours. These one-on-one tour opportunities give prospective students and parents an opportunity to explore our newly renovated campus and get specific high school and adult education enrollment questions answered.
Tuesday Tours will run every 30 minutes from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. now through March 30th. Please note that Polaris will limit the number of students visiting each program and maintain strict social distancing protocols. Below are the details on how to reserve a spot with Polaris high school and adult education staff:

CAREER TECH VISITS
Career Tech Visits are available during the school day for sophomores who are interested in enrolling in a Polaris program but need more time to make an informed decision. These in-person opportunities give students extended shadowing experience in up to two Polaris programs.
Career Tech Visits take place during the morning and afternoon every Wednesday and Thursday through March 25th.
All visits should be scheduled through your High School Counselor’s Office in coordination with the Polaris Enrollment Office. Requests should be made no later than the Friday before the scheduled visit. Contact Cindy Crisler, Polaris Enrollment Coordinator, at 440.891.7732 for additional information.

Remote Learning Option
As we continue to welcome students back into Fairview High School/Mayer Middle School for in-person learning, parents/guardians have the option to either keep or enroll their child into the Remote Learning Option. Those students who are currently enrolled in the RLO WILL REMAIN unless a change is desired. If you wish to add your child to RLO or remove, please email Mrs. Tieri at atieri@fairview.k12.oh.us.

What?
Mindfulness refers to a set of practices, certain habits of mind - as well as a general way of being in life.
Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally. It’s about knowing what is on your mind.
Another way to say it - mindfulness is paying attention to your life here and now with kindness and curiosity.
When + How?
Mindfulness can be done during sitting meditation, movement activities such as running, walking or yoga and even while eating, doing school work or during other typical daily moments.
Beginning on December 7th, join Mrs. Cory each Monday morning at 8:15 am to learn how to use mindfulness as a way to help with the challenges present in your daily life. Meet details below!

Mindfulness practices in schools have been shown to improve students’ emotional well-being, academic performance and relationships.

While we are in Hybrid Learning:
On your Child(ren)'s remote days: If your child will not be able to log into their virtual classroom due to an appointment or not feeling well, please email Ms. Lockwood at jlockwood@fairview.k12.oh.us or call at 440-356-3500 ext. 4104.
On your Child(ren)'s in-person days: If your child will not be able to come into the building for in-person learning you will need to call them off of school for the day. Your child can still log into their classes to get their assignments, however they will be counted absent physically from the building, so you will need to let Ms. Lockwood know .
In addition - please remind your child(ren) that they must sign in to their virtual classes every period so that attendance can be taken. Failure to do so will result in being marked absent for that class period.

Graduation will be here before we know it! Please note that in order for your student to receive their Cap and Gown, Diploma, and participate in Graduation Ceremonies (however they may be) all school fees must be paid before Graduation. Please contact Mrs. Tieri with any questions or concerns!
In Addition - if you have not received and completed your Diploma information sheet sent out via email from the Principal's Office, please do so ASAP. The email sent to Senior Families included a google form asking for the required information. Hello Fairview Park Families!
The last few weeks I have been writing articles related to students returning to school... organization, sleep habits, etc. Here is a great resource from the CDC.
The other day, I hosted a Parent University on Phone Addiction. Many educators are seeing that students are not getting a proper night's sleep — because they are on their phones. According to Dr. Michelle O'Connor, my guest speaker, she said the following are signs to look for that your child may have a phone addiction:
- Negative impact on daily functioning (staying isolated in room, not attending family functions, etc)
- Feeling uneasy or anxious when unable to access phone
- Their phone becomes a coping mechanism.
Are you as the parent seeing your child with sleep disturbances, signs of depression and/or anxiety, low self-esteem, or increased irritability? Try to:
- Limit cell phone use - involve your child in setting limits, designate times when using phone is prohibited and encourage face to face interactions.
- Discourage phone use 1 hour before bed - and Yes....parents get the phone for the evening.
- Find other activities your child enjoys
