Latino Community Hit Hard By COVID-19
As the nation struggles to combat the harsh impacts of coronavirus, many individuals and families are navigating unemployment and job loss, health concerns, financial worries, and many other areas of hardship. On this front, the Latino community is taking a significantly larger hit by comparison to other groups, a recent Pew Research Center report finds.
While financial worries were already of chief concern among Latinos before the public health crisis ensued, Hispanic unemployment rates rose sharply in recent months, remaining higher than the rate of U.S. workers overall. Hispanic women in particular are facing the sharpest spikes in unemployment.

Latinos who responded to the survey said that prior to COVID-19 immigration and the economy were the most important issues facing the nation, revealing that the community was already impacted by economic difficulties pre-coronavirus. Across party lines, Latinos reported widespread concern about immigration and economic issues.

The vast majority of Latinos also support providing economic aid to affected businesses and individuals. Among the efforts supported are: preventing evictions and foreclosures on renters (90%), offering financial assistance to state and local governments (88%), extending the increase in employment benefits (72%), and other initiatives aimed at lessening financial hardship.
