September's Counseling Corner
|
|
As one can expect it has been very busy in the counseling office to start the year. Schedule changes will be completed soon and the students seem to be settling into their classes.
On September 20th we kick off the Senior Year with a Virtual Senior Parents Night at 6:00pm, please check your email, the school’s website and Facebook on Monday for the Youtube link. We will discuss all of the options a student may take after high school including employment and the military in addition to the college application timeline, letters of recommendation, Scoir and the Common Application. Counselors will then begin hosting college labs to help students with applications. Students will be able to sign up for college labs in Enriching Students. In addition, counselors will be meeting individually with every senior to complete their Intent to Graduate forms.
Once again, we will host over 80 colleges and Military Representatives for our Annual College Fair on September 22nd from 10:30-12. The list of colleges represented will be on the high school website on the counseling office page. Students in grades 9-12 will be able to participate.
Speaking of which, the counseling office has a website! You will find many links to helpful resources including College Board, Scoir, ACT, Khan Academy and NCAA. Please check back frequently as we will be adding links for mental health resources, internship opportunities and scholarship information.
Sanborn is administering the PSAT for free on October 13th to every student in grades 9-11. We will have more information about as we get closer to the day.
As always, counselors continue to meet with all students to support them emotionally, academically and socially. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s counselor.

THANK YOU to the Sanborn Seminary Trustees for $36,248.00 in Financial Assistance To Innovative Classroom Initiatives
|
|
Each year, the Sanborn Seminary Trustees, a community organization, consider requests from Sanborn Regional High School teachers to support innovative projects and initiatives in the classroom that are designed to help expand and advance the school's programming beyond what can resources available in the operating budget. This year the Trustees have decided to fund 8 projects totaling $36,248.00. The details of these projects are below:
Eyes on Science ($1540): Students will participate in 6 live science video conferences designed to enhance and supplement classroom instruction.
Outfitting the STEM Lab ($4500): This proposal would provide funds to outfit the new room with essential tools and equipment, allowing students to complete a wide variety of projects in a centralized location.
Lead 'Em Up ($1600): The grant will allow the school to implement another year of leadership training with Adam Bradley. This leadership training will prepare students to go down to the Middle School and Ellis and work with students to develop deeper connections.
Darkroom ($5000): Purchase of equipment to upgrade the photography program for future programming.
Artist in Residence Master Class Series ($7200): This grant will allow the music program to bring in a variety of music artists to work with music students throughout the year.
Mobile Toolbox ($5130): Purchase of a mobile toolbox for the shop program.
Welding Artist in Residence ($6900): Continuation/expansion of the 2019 artist and residence program.
Tower Garden Education ($4378): Purchase of a tower garden. A Tower Garden is a vertical growing system that uses aeroponics for soil-less growing of fruits and vegetables. Aeroponics uses nutrient-enriched water to nourish the exposed roots of the plants and allows vegetables to reach harvest size in half the time as traditional growing methods, without soil or pesticides.
Over the years, the Trustees have given HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to support innovative classroom programs just like these for Sanborn students. We are grateful for their efforts and generosity.

Information on Breakfast and Lunch Programs at SRSD
|
|
Hello families, students and staff of Sanborn School District
I would like to share some information about the meal programs in your district which will hopefully be helpful in ensuring your students do not have unwanted charges on there lunch accounts and get the FREE meals they are entitled too.
The current USDA meal program will provide all student with 1 Free Breakfast and 1 free Lunch per day. The meal must be a complete meal which has to include at least 1 fruit or vegetable. If it does not include this the student will have to be charged for the meal. We will do our absolute best to encourage students to take all the components of the meal so they will not be charged.
Milk - Milk is a component of the meal that students can choose to take or not. It is not a required component. Milk is NOT free for all students, Only those getting a full meal. If your student would like only milk they can purchase it for .65 cents. This includes breakfast, snack and lunch milk.
2nd meals - as stated above the USDA only pays for 1 breakfast and 1 lunch per student per day. If a student is interested (with parent permission of coarse) in purchasing a second meal or second entree they can do so as quantities are available.
If you have any questions and or concerns please feel free to reach out to your food service director Cara Green @ sanborn@freshpickscafe.com or by phone 603-642-3341.

Parents: We Need Your Help.
|
|
Dear Parents,
As a parent of five myself, I get it. We are all busy, and we all can't always make the time to commit to help in ways that we would truly want to. Having said that, our parent groups desperately need your help. Many hands make light work but right now, due to a lack of parent volunteers, many of the services and programs these groups provide our school may go by the wayside. In the last year, some of our groups have folded all together and others are struggling to find new members. Our school is going to feel the impact.
As one example, consider the annual Saturday morning homecoming parade, an event that has always been run by our Athletic Boosters - one of the groups that folded. The school simply doesn't have the capacity to run this event on a Saturday morning the same way that the parent group did. While we plan to offer a similar Homecoming experience that is within our control on our campus during the school day, it won't be the same as the Saturday event that the Boosters ran each year. Parent volunteers are a critical part of our school community, and without them we have to make modifications to what we can provide.
What can you do?
You can start by sending a simple email to one of our parent groups to ask how you can help our school throughout the year.
Here is the contact info for our groups:
Thank you for your consideration. A little help on your part could go a long way.
Yours,
Brian M. Stack, Principal

Southern Rockingham Coalition for Youth (SoROCK) Update

National Suicide Prevention Week is September 5–11!
|
|
People have become increasingly comfortable talking about their mental health, particularly this past year. But the topic of suicide – when it comes up – is still scary for many people to think about. -American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Show you care, and trust your gut – if you are worried about someone you know, take action and get help. Contact the Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 (TALK) or text HOME to 741741, 24/7. Asking family or friends if they are having thoughts of suicide will not “give them an idea,” and may be just what they need to get help.
If you are in need of mental health or substance use prevention resources, you can reach us through our website sorocknh.org or on social media @sorocknh or via email sorocknhcc@gmail.com.
