MMA Introduces Resources to Advance a Safe & Productive MFG Restart

LANSING (May 14, 2020) — The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today released the MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations, an interactive tool kit integrating leading safety standards for manufacturers with direct links to more than 30 MMA member-provided products and services to help manufacturers scale up operations in the new normal. The tool kit, the latest in a series of MMA-supplied COVID-19 resources, is engineered to ensure manufacturing continues to lead the restart of Michigan’s economic engine.

“Manufacturers have been an inspiration during this global pandemic. They’ve stepped up to donate their resources toward the creation of personal protective equipment for front-line first responders, health care professionals and those personally fighting COVID-19,” said John J. Walsh, MMA President & CEO. “Now that Governor Whitmer has given manufacturing the green light to get back to work, our new tool kit can help those same employers design a path to safely and productively restart their operations.”

The MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations tool kit condenses safety standards articulated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and includes best practices put forth by the State of Michigan and MMA’s diverse membership on topics ranging from decontamination, information technology, social distancing and virus mitigation to financial resources and supply chain management, training and communication, locating personal protective equipment (PPE), and legal and loss control services.

“I’m a natural optimist and have watched manufacturers all across the state begin to pull themselves up but they don’t have to create a restart strategy on their own,” explained Walsh. “The resources available to them through MMA can offer solutions and viable partners for challenges they are going to face in the weeks and months ahead.”

“Our resources, specifically the MFG Tools for Safe and Productive Operations, are continually evolving and we hope that all employers and industry supporters will share their own knowledge and best practices with us to ensure manufacturers have a leg up on their restart efforts,” said Walsh.
