September 17th, 2021
Dear EAMS Students and Families,
We wrapped up a great second week of school! It was great to see the family and friend support for our girls basketball and cross country teams. Daily, I’ve seen students being kind to each other, thinking critically, and reflecting on their own learning. By far the most unique thing I saw this week was the 6th-graders making their own ice cream! Shout out to Mr. Fisher and Ms. Card for bringing the learning to life and making it tasty.
Over the past two weeks of WIN, we have focused on organization, relationship building, and had our first mental health awareness lesson. You can find those lessons here:
As we move into our third week of the year, students will experience a shift in their WIN time. On Mondays and Fridays, students will experience Readiness Lessons that focus on social and emotional learning, academic and career planning, anti-bullying, and academic behaviors. Tuesday through Thursday, students will report to a teacher, or different teachers, to receive academic support or extension opportunities. WIN period helps our staff to be responsive to students' needs outside of the classroom and work towards our school goal of everyone meeting their growth goals.
Next week is an exciting one--don’t miss our PTO’s first event on Tuesday at 6 PM: "Navigating the Middle School.” They will share all the tips, tricks, and guidance from other parents and staff on how to best help your Middle Schooler navigate their new grade level! On Friday and weather permitting, the PTO will be hosting an outdoor dance and activities!
As items come up that you have questions or concerns about, please do not hesitate to contact me, have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ryan McBurney
Principal

PTO "NAVIGATING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL" MEETING SEPT. 21ST 6:00PM
Now that both you and your student are fully in the swing of things, the EAMS PTO would like to invite you to our open chat session on Tuesday, September 21st at 6:00pm. The event is exclusively for parents/guardians with pod teachers, the principals, and other parents to answer any remaining questions you may have and get additional tips for a successful year. We will be dividing by grade level: 6th Grade parents to the gym, 7th/8th Grade parents to the cafeteria. Wanna know more about your daughter's school clubs/sports? How your sons' grades work? What happens this year for 8th Graders? WE HAVE THE ANSWERS!!!
Because we only have 60 minutes, please send any topics or questions for discussion directly to elkhornms.pto@gmail.com so we can make sure they're covered during your session. See you there!

BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE NEXT FRIDAY! SEPTEMBER 24 6-8:00PM
The PTO is hosting our first dance of the school year outdoors next Friday night (weather pending so dress as needed). Admission will be $3 and we'll have a DJ, sports and games, and a concession stand stocked full of pizza and sugary goodness guaranteed to keep the kids dancing the night away! We hope everyone can make it!!! Please drop off/pick up in usual lanes near the giant "WELCOME" sign by the cafeteria doors so we can track numbers and maneuver the crowd safely.
We also need volunteers to help make the night happen. We know...we all vowed not to be THAT parent, but the reality is that we can't hold the event without a minimum number of volunteers to make sure our lil' middle school angels stay out of trouble. Without enough parents, there will be no dance! :( We're already halfway there... so let's make it happen for our kids!!! Click here to sign up!

WE'RE ON FACEBOOK!!!
Lastly, we've started our own Facebook page with all the latest happenings of the group! FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK! Click here to like and follow us. We'll be using it to keep everyone up to date on PTO happenings, post pictures from events, and ask for help with events. Check it out!
