Beginning Monday (May 18), gym facilities, manufacturing services and office spaces will be able to open with restrictions and by following specific protocols according to the Governor's Orders, including operating at no more than 25% of occupancy. Be sure to check with your local gym or office facility to get information about their individual safety procedures, and if they plan to open. Austin Public Health announced a new risk-based guideline chart for Travis County this week. It gives guidance at each of the 5 stages of risk, including guidance for those at higher risk and lower risk of falling ill to COVID-19 for each stage. According to an assessment, Austin Public Health puts Travis County in Stage 3 on the chart, which means individuals are advised to stay home if sick, practice good hygiene, wear facial coverings and avoid social gatherings, among other guidance. The USAF Thunderbirds flew over Lakeway and the Lake Travis area Wednesday afternoon to honor frontline COVID-19 responders and essential workers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regular City Council meeting this coming Monday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. will be conducted through video conference and available by clicking here. Finally, to the numbers. Austin-Travis County is reporting that there have been 2,345 positive COVID-19 cases to date in Travis County. That number is up by 343 compared to the same time last week, 348 the week before that and 342 the week before that one. There have been 42 positive COVID-19 cases in the three zip codes associated with Lakeway (78734, 78738 and 78669), which is up by 5 from the same time last week. The 30 to 39 year old age range for both males and females continues to be the highest reporting group, followed by males and females in the 20 to 29 year old age range. Please continue to wash your hands regularly, practice social distancing, and while it's not mandatory to wear face coverings, it's still strongly encouraged in public. Today (Friday, May 15) is Peace (Police) Officers Memorial Day, which brings Police Week to a close. We commend the brave men and women of our law enforcement for continually summoning the courage to fulfill their solemn oath to protect and serve. We also take pause to remember all those who have lost their lives defending their communities and rule of law. Since Police Week 2019, more than 30 Texas police officers have bene killed, or passed away due to COVID-19 related illnesses. In an email to Lakeway officers earlier this week, Chief Todd Radford wrote, "I want to acknowledge each of you --- telecommunicators, administrative personnel and officers --- who stand the blue line every day, in every way, to ensure that justice and peace are ever present." We are proud to have an amazing group of officers at the Lakeway Police Department who work hard to keep our community safe. Thank you for all that you do, especially now during this unusual time. We truly appreciate you!

The Lakeway Community Blood Drive scheduled at the Activity Center tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 16) is currently fully booked at this point. There are more than a dozen on a waitlist.
