Making A Comeback

Now is the time to act! There are a few more weeks left in the semester.

During this time you can connect with your faculty, try new study strategies to earn better grades, and learn more about how to improve your total grade before the term is over. Ensure that you use these final weeks to your benefit starting today!

  • Take Action for Success: Be proactive in your approach to identify and improve grades in all your classes no matter how big or small the assignments may be
  • Know Your Grades: One of the biggest mistakes made is not knowing the outlook of what your final class average grade will be so be sure to do the math and connect with your professor to confirm
Take Action for Success
  • Assess if there is anything that needs immediate action (i.e. Missed a test? Contact your professor right away to check for possible information about a make up exam.)

  • Take pause and step away from the situation (i.e. Reset after the mistake and take a true break like hanging out with a friend. This way you can tackle the problem with a clear mind the following day)

  • Identify the causes of your low grade(s) (i.e. Studying for a test the exact same way after getting a low grade the first time will likely lead to the same result. Push yourself to analyze areas that could be improved or done differently.)

  • Make a plan to address them and retry/move forward better (i.e try study groups, phone apps to support the issue you are facing, build Office Hours attendance into your weekly schedule.)

  • Get help! (i.e If you feel stuck and know things are not going well - reach out to any and all resources including faculty, advisors, and other University staff available to help along with your peers.)

Know Your Grades
Calculating Your Final Grade

Have you checked your syllabus to see how your instructor is combining and weighing each grade? When you know how much an assignment's category weighs and the point values for the letter grade you've achieved on an assignment, you can prioritize assignments that weigh more - and you can predict how an expected letter grade will impact your overall grade in a class.

Knowledge is power in helping you feel confident academically. The Academic Achievement Center has highlighted some GPA Calculating tools that will help you understand where you are in your courses based upon the weights of each assignment.
GPA Calculators

At the end of a semester, your instructor will input a final grade that accounts for all graded assignments according to their weight in the syllabus.

This final grade is what will show on your UConn transcript and be used to calculate your semester and cumulative GPA's.
