No Name Change for Two Village Roads
At the July 28, 2020 Village Board meeting, the Village President and Board of Trustees discussed proposed name changes for two roads in the Village (Long Grove Road proposed to be changed to West Long Grove Road, and Robert Parker Coffin Road proposed to be changed to Long Grove Road). The Board chose not to move forward with any name changes. Additionally, the proposed memorialization of the covered bridge to officially be named Robert Parker Coffin Bridge was on the agenda, but was not discussed by the Board. For any questions, please call Village Hall at 847-634-9440.
Census Workers Start Home Visits This Month
Your participation in the 2020 Census is vital to ensure you and your household members are counted! Starting August 11, 2020, census takers will start visiting households that have not yet responded. While the workers will be wearing personal protective equipment and following safety protocols, the U.S. Census Bureau strongly encourages the public to respond online and avoid the need for an in-person visit.

Fill out your form now at mycensus2020.gov, call 844-330-2020, or watch this video to learn how you can be counted. Please remember that all census responses are completely confidential. Do your part by completing the census to help support the Long Grove community for the next decade!
Phillip Estates Subdivision Proposed on Cuba Road
The Village Board referred the application for a planned unit development (PUD) called the Phillip Estates Subdivision to the Plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals at its July 28, 2020 Board Meeting. As proposed, the subdivision would be built on 34 acres and include 19 single-family lots on currently vacant property at Cuba Road south of Glenstone and east of Deerwood Estates. The proposed PUD site was previously known as Canterbury Park and has been undeveloped for many years. The Phillip Estates Subdivision proposal would require the property to be rezoned. A public hearing is tentatively set for Tuesday, October 6, 2020. More information is available here.

RPC Bridge Project Wrapping Up
The RPC Bridge project is finally coming to a close, and is expected to be completed by mid-August, weather-permitting.
The RPC Bridge project has consisted of removing its timber cover, replacing the abutments, and moving the bridge from its normal location to be painted. The bridge was moved back in July, and the contractor has now been working on siding and shingle installation. Click here for updates and information, along with drone videos and pictures that have documented the progress of this project since early April.
Sculpture to Return to Towner Green
This sculpture was donated by Long Grove resident Bev Bystricky in honor of her late husband, Harry Bystricky, in 1997.
Residents and visitors may have noticed that the bronze sculpture Afternoon in the Park is not at its normal location in Towner Green, due to the construction of sidewalks on Old McHenry Road. The sculpture will be reinstalled soon, which will be made possible by property owner Wendell Towner, who agreed to provide an easement to the Village to install a concrete base along with the statue.
Buffalo Creek Park Improvements
Improvements continue to be made in Buffalo Creek Park, a 5-acre green space in downtown Long Grove. This community gem has a rolling landscape, a creek, bridge, walking paths, benches, and a gazebo just steps away from shops and restaurants. The latest planned upgrades are made possible by a $12,000 grant from Mainstreet Organization of Realtors and North Shore-Barrington Association of Realtors. The improvements will include the repair and staining of wooden structures, and restoration of other facets of the park that otherwise could not have been afforded, according to Long Grove Park District President Kent Tinucci. The grant was applied for in the name of the park district by Bobbie O’Reilly, owner of Weichert Realtors/McKee Real Estate in downtown Long Grove and Long Grove Village Trustee.

Future planned improvements include a new entry arbor at the Robert Parker Coffin Road entrance to match the one at Old McHenry Road. Ecological maintenance, as well as clean up and removal of non-native invaders in the sedge meadow, walnut grove and tree-lined borders of the park are also planned. Previous improvements have included new gardens, restored existing paths and additional paths.
Music Town Takeovers Continue!
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the talented musicians taking over the streets of historic downtown Long Grove every weekend. On Saturdays and Sundays through the end of August from noon until 5 p.m., original acts and cover bands of all genres and ages perform throughout town at four outdoor venues. Long Grove Live has been called a "mini Ravinia,” featuring Frank Sinatra inspired songs, Motown, doo wop, blues, indie, and country rock. The producers are following recommended State of Illinois guidelines for social distancing, including hand washing, mask-wearing, and the implementation of hand sanitation stations. Weekly music schedules and more information can be found at this link.
