Welcome to MD Class of 2025! Good luck on your first week and please reach out to any of us should you have questions. Remember, you belong here! YOU’VE GOT THIS.
 
Class of 2024, we are off to a strong start to second year! Let’s keep the momentum rolling and crush block 3. StuCo is here to help you be successful so please send suggestions, ideas, or questions our way. We are well on our way to being 50% doctors!

National Hispanic Health Foundation Scholarship
The National Hispanic Health Foundation’s (NHHF) Hispanic Health Professional Student Scholarship application is open now through September 24.

WaCo Health Fair RESCHEDULED
The Washington County Health Fair has been postponed until October 2. Stay tuned for volunteer details.
Bear Health Educators
The Bear Health Educators (BEH) program is inviting medical students to speak to the BEH class on November 9 at 5pm about the effects of tobacco, nicotine, and vaping. BEH trains undergrads to help their fellow students maintain healthy habits in college. Please email Dr. Carol Bokros or Dr. Nichole Casaceli to learn more and volunteer.
Interreligious Dialogue: Religion and Health
Dr. Robert N. Nash of the McAfee School of Theology and Dr. Brian Childs would like to host a meeting of medical and theological students to discuss the relationship between religion and health. They are working to determine a date and time that would work for most students. The event will be held via Zoom on a Tuesday afternoon in September or October. Email Dr. Childs if you are interested and can be available on a Tuesday between 1:30 and 3:30pm. This invitation is open to all medical students from all classes. This event may be used as a basis for a more formal educational relationship between the medical school and school of theology. While voluntary, a student can note participation in this event on their CV.

OB/GYN Interest Group Meeting with Dr. Keisha Callins

Dr. Keisha Reneé Callins is a women’s health/public health professional and MUSM faculty member. Dr. Callins is passionate about women’s health issues, healthcare for rural and underserved areas, community engagement, healthcare workforce, and mentoring students.

ALL students enrolled in School of Medicine programs are required to have the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the start of the term and the second dose by August 31 (in a two-dose series) or the single dose by the start of the term. Mercer University Campus Health will be hosting vaccine clinics later this month. Make an appointment to get vaccined on the Atlanta or Macon campus.
Macon Library Renovations
The medical library on the Macon campus is being renovated through mid-October. During this time, group study rooms will be closed and other areas may be temporarily unavailable. Print reserve books are available on book carts across from the circulation desk. Anatomical models are in the entrance of the tutorial hall. Noise levels may be higher than normal. Check the Skelton Medical Library webpage for more information, resources, and progress updates.
