January City Council Meeting Wrap
The City Council meeting for January was this past Tuesday, January 19. Here are a few of the highlights from that meeting:

FINANCIALS: The city's finance director gave a report and update on the city's budget showing so far this fiscal year (October 2020 through September 2021) there is a $66,380 positive variance for revenue and a $190,807 favorable variable in expenditures.

PARKS MASTER PLAN: City Council received their first look at the preliminary Parks Master Plan for review. The purpose of this plan is to focus on identifying and preparing to meet the City's parks and recreational needs for the next five to ten years. It addresses existing, proposed and future parks and recreation opportunities and projects. No vote was taken at this meeting. Click here to see the preliminary plan.

DEER SURVEY: City Council received a report on the 2020 white-tailed deer spotlight survey. Click here to review the data. City Council will continue to review data, and is expected to continue the discussion in an upcoming city council meeting.

ROUGH HOLLOW AGREEMENT: City Council discussed the second reading of the restatement of the Rough Hollow Development Agreement, which included a presentation showing designs of potential structures in the Rough Hollow area that could be included as part of the agreement. City Council did not take a vote on this item, but will bring it back up in an upcoming City Council meeting.

Virtual Pigskin Showdown
The City of Lakeway's Parks & Recreation Department is accepting entries for the 2021 Virtual Pigskin Showdown from now through January 31. It's a good time to practice your football skills just before the Super Bowl, while also competing with other residents. A special "Pigskin Playground" has been set up at Dragon Park (702-A Dragon). All you have to do is bring your football, a kickstand and a visual recording device to show off your best kick, throw or punt. A special measuring guide, along with additional instructions are included in the link below. Submit entries by the end of the month to [email protected]. Don't forget to include your age bracket, total score (details in the link), and a picture or video of you participating in the contest. Winners for special prizes will be announced early February. NEW: StoryWalk Returns February

Take a walk and read a book! Just in time for Valentine's Day, StoryWalk returns to the trail directly behind City Hall (1102 Lohmans Crossing Road) starting February 1 and will run through February 15. Pages of the book "I'd Know You Anywhere, My Love" by author Nancy Tillman will be posted along the walkway so readers can experience the importance of reading, spending time with friends and connecting with nature in a fun, educational way. Visitors are encouraged to record their responses at the end of the route. Click here for more information.
NEW: Batting Cage Upgrade

The batting cage located at Ranger Field recently received an upgrade with new turf, along with a pitching and batting mat. Ranger Field is located next to City Park at 502 Hurst Creek Road. The field is available for use, but must be reserved in advance for organized activities. Fields are available for non-organized, drop-in use when not reserved, and for practices when reserved properly. The field does include use of the batting cage. For Lakeway residents, the hourly fee is $5 for a two hour maximum. Click here for more information and for a link to download the registration form.
