Optimist Leadership Award Dalia Housey '21
Dalia Housey '21 is a recipient of the 2020 Optimist Leadership Award sponsored by the Farmington/Farmington Hills Breakfast Optimist Club. Dalia was selected because of her commitment to leadership and promoting a positive message of well being throughout our Mercy community, especially during this difficult time. Dalia has held a student government position since her freshman year at Mercy, and now serves as the Executive Board Chair of the Student Council. Currently serving as the Executive Board Chair of Student Council, Dalia inspires others with confidence, empathy and creative thinking. This is an important time to lead by example, and that is exactly what Dalia does in modeling positive leadership for others. She is also involved in Mock Trial, Forensics, and the Healthy Habits Club. Teachers and staff describe Dalia as determined, reliable, goal-oriented, and outgoing. It is for this reason that Mercy HS nominated Dalia for the Optimist Leadership Award. Congratulations, Dalia!
CLASS OF 2024 DIVERSITY RETREAT THIS WEDNESDAY
Mercy Link Crew will be providing all 9th grade students with our 5th annual Diversity Retreat program this Wednesday, October 21 from 10:00am to 12:00pm via Zoom. The Zoom link will be shared to students via Schoology on October 20. The goal of our 9th grade Diversity Retreat is to create a more inclusive Class of 2024 through activities and conversation. After a brief introductory presentation by Link Crew Coordinators Mrs. Brown & Mrs. Mc Gavin, 9th graders will participate in small group activities led by their assigned Link Leaders. This event is mandatory for all Mercy 9th graders. If you have any questions, please direct them to Mrs. Brown (tmbrown@mhsmi.org) or Mrs. McGavin (samcgavin@mhsmi.org).
POWERSCHOOL ACCESS UPDATE
After an enlightening conversation with some juniors and seniors last week about the frustrations faced due to PowerSchool being turned off during the school day, Administration and Counseling agreed to have it turned on for a two week trial period. The student feedback included: teachers discussing grades without being able to view them; receiving notifications that grades are increasing or decreasing without being able to see what was posted; the limited time in the building to discuss an incorrect grade with a teacher and not being able to show on PowerSchool the issue.

PowerSchool will remain on during the school day with the following procedures:

  • Students can check PowerSchool only between classes and during lunch.
  • Grades cannot be checked during class time unless permitted by the teacher.
  • Any errors with attendance will be discussed with the teacher after class.
  • Communication with parents about grades will occur after school or at home.

We are requesting parents work in partnership with our teachers and communicate with your daughter about her grades after school. When she is in school her attention should be on her classwork and learning. We also encourage you to have your daughter communicate with her teacher if there is an issue or question about her grade. A communication to the teacher should occur after you have had a chance to speak with your daughter about her grades.
